Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro was speaking at an event to mark the 81st anniversary of the national army when drones loaded with explosives allegedly flew by and went off close to his stage. Some are beginning to believe this was a stunt set up by the government to portray the leader in a better light, however: a few firefighters told the AP it was actually a gas tank explosion inside an apartment.

Two drones loaded with explosives went off near the president's stand, Communications Minister Jorge Rodriguez said. Mr. Maduro later said in a national address: "A flying object exploded near me, a big explosion. Seconds later there was a second explosion." Photos on social media showed bodyguards protecting Mr. Maduro with bulletproof shields after the alleged attack.

Just fucking bomb him already with aircrafts. The alternative is he can go down in history as slaughtering a shitload of people from mass starvation and ignorance.

Them bad boys need a good old dose of AMERICA anyway.

But ... but ... he's a socialist! Bringing social justice to the people!
Aren't we supposed to ignore all the bad things because of that?

How long before the intel swarm stuff is usurped to have swarms of drone bombs?

Just like the MIRVs of ICBMs, there's going to be a point where you run out of defences...

I don't think drones make for a good assassination attempt. A sniper rifle from a distance is more likely to do the job. An exploding drone seems staged to me.

well... some dude did drop grenades on their supreme court building and then started telling everyone to overthrow the very same government. they cant have that many qualified pilots with access to nearby helicopters that are also nutjobs........ sooooooooooo........ maybe they are just trying to make due with what they have?

They are ranked as one of the most corrupt countries and least transparent. Many of the military are drug traffickers and criminals. The discovery of oil in the country has caused a lot of corruption and rapid inflation because it's practically their only export, apart from drugs. Their citizens used to pay $0.01 USD per liter of oil, causing citizens to form networks of corrupt trade exports and illegal goods. Venezuelan government gives away over 200,000 barrels of oil per day to other South American countries as opposition to western trade. When the oil prices dropped, it destroyed their economy because their only export couldn't cover the cost of spending and free oil.

Soon enough "Nuke 'em from orbit..." will be an actual thing. :)

those drones should of had an audio output and used a .50 cal sound tract
Price of drones? $10k. Reaction on the platform? Priceless

Looking like a false flag, not a drone attack:

The BBC quotes anonymous firefighters at the scene who say "the incident was actually a gas tank explosion inside an apartment, but did not provide further details." Venezuelan authorities also said that 7 people had been arrested.

Maduro needs a war with somebody, and a war with Columbia won't result in certain defeat like a war with the US would.

Really sad the people haven't cleaned this guy out already. When you keep people stupid you can stay in power, it's a tactic the RATs in the USA use.

Staged media event.
You hit the deck when there’s explosions, you don’t stand there and look directly up without even flinching.

But no doubt remote firing stations are the way to assasinate heads of state.

I haven’t heard from my online musician buddies since this prick took office.
I sure hope they get rid of these fake Socialists.

Hugo’s daughter skated away with billions like a great Socialist leaders relatives would.
This guy won’t be any different.

Interesting attack vector of a person. Why not send in 10-20 drones to do the job? I have no idea how heavy the explosives are or how close you would need to get.

I would point out it's really hard to feed your people when your country is tied off from outside funds due to heavy sanctions from countries like the USA etc. etc.

It's not really him that's starving the people. It's well...you.

Yea, lets omit all pertinent facts so we can carve a story that suits our narrative, then blurt it out in a way to make it sound like fact. Get lost because that playbook is old.

Blame America First ! ..... Even when it's misleading and not true.

As an assassination attempt, pretty much a fail. If instead it was designed to get publicity for the anti-government movement, 100% success. The regular government beat downs of protesters have become so common place, they rarely get any notice outside the country. But the exploding drone has put the Venezuelan opposition back on the front pages. Well worth the cost of a cheap drone and a home made flash bang.

You mention an effect but not the cause. Why were those sanctions implemented in the first place?

That's okay if you want to go round like the playground bully when someone wont pony up their lunch money, that's the deal.

But those sanctions are there...and they ain't helping.

Please regale us with the all the ways that the US oppresses the poor Venezuelan government.
We're waiting with bated breath.
Oh, make sure that you have legit sources-Mother Jones and Antifia Weekly don't count as anything other than propaganda.

Conservatives: Socialism! Antifa! Mother Jones! LIberal are dumb!
Liberals: NAZI's! Fox News! Trump! Alex Jones! Conservatives are dumb!

This thread. This is how we talk to each other. The US is fucked.
