I've got an R510 server loaded up with 8x2TB drives to be used as an archive/additional storage server for Veeam image backups, and if there's space additional dumping grounds for non-important data.
My original plan was to load up Server 2008 r2, install Veeam and add it into the Veeam server infrastructure for additional replication of our backups. Turns out, I didn't do my due diligence and this server has no RAID card, so it supports RAID0 or 1 only.
I'm debating purchasing something like the H700 card for cheap off eBay, or just installing some flavor of *nix and using a form of ZFS software RAID.
Any thoughts?
