Apparently Valve has created a new audio solution for developers to use. It works with Windows, Linux, MacOS and Android so far. It supports the Unity Engine (version 5.2+) and hopefully will be suipported by UE4 soon as well. It isn't tied to Steam at the moment so far and hopefully stays that way so that games on other platforms such as GOG, IndieGameStand, Itch.io, etc can make use of it.

All these developments are making me quite excited for the future of Linux. The days of being Microsoft free are approaching.

It's good to be excited in something you not only have complete control over, but something you can actually contribute to if you so desire.

Linux is not an OS designed to generate profit. It's an OS designed by one person, improved by many people and designed to be an OS for the people by the people. In a generation of increasing greed this is a good thing.
