yeah, im curious about that as well, it clearly cant encrypt the torrent data itself

- Feature: Show encryption status in Flags field

maybe it is that.

I did some reading, and this is intended to bypass traffic shaping that some ISPs are implementing. It only encrypts the packet header. What im wondering is if an ids appliance such as snort can still pick up the packets because the actual data is in the clear

KoolDrew: Yesterday. ;) Though the design was presented a few months ago...I even helped squash a few bugs here and there. Ignorantcow did an excellent job on the site, IMHO.

The encryption is to bypass crappy ISP restrictions as jbrukardt pointed out. It's fully compliant with the encryption scheme used by Azureus (it's a joint-developed system between the developers of both programs). And you can select between a handshake only encryption scheme, all traffic, forced encryption and of course you can turn it off. All in all a win-win situation for every user. :)

Anyone know if the "all traffic" option makes it so an IDS wouldnt pick up torrents? Also, how much inspection would it take by say a net-sec officer to determine that this new traffic was torrents.
