Researchers have found a way to create face models using only a 2D picture or partial picture. The results are pretty impressive, even if they did turn a 2D picture of Muhammad Ali into a 3D render of Chris Brown. ;)

thats what i thought, too. i think that sadly the tech will be bought up by the 3 letters and not hit the street, where the video modders wet dreams would be turned to 3d overnight. imagine inserting characters into your games and not having to do any of the modeling on the most complex part? :O

Other than 3 letter agencies and celebrity/coworker fetish porn I don't see this getting used much.

I see it as more of a start to something neat. I just rewatched minority report a few days ago and there's the scene of the 3d projected holo's of his kid and wife. Pretty darn cool.

It was only 40 years ago that people laughed at the idea of a portable music player...now look.

I must not have had coffee yet, my first thought was rendering for 3d-printing or industrial design assistance. Now that you mentioned those items, I am sold!! haha

give them fing eyeballs f sakes that was creepy

I don't get it, they have been doing this in games for years already. Go look at some of the EA NHL hockey games, they take a 2D face photo and map it onto a 3D model.

Is there a reason that using this ugly demon fucker as a template for this is necessary?
