I am upgrading my computer, the new motherboard i ordered has SATA on it at well as IDE. I have three 200GB ide drives that i will be using from my old computer, I was wondering if i can add a couple of SATA drives for more storage. Is is possable to use both formats? any problems when doing this?

Yes, you can use both SATA and IDE at the same time with no ill effects.

It works just fine. In my server I have 2 sata drives and an IDE drive. Just be warned depending on the chipset of the Motherboard it can be tricky using an IDE drive as your primary boot drive.

Edit: Look at that simultaneous posts.

here is the motherboard i ordered..

will it be a problem using IDE as primary?
It may be a little while before i add any SATA drives

You will be fine.

The problem is mainly with Intel chipsets. That don't have built in IDE support Like the 965s or only one IDE controller like my 925 board. So you have to daisy chain the cd drive and the harddrive on the same channel that makes them both slow and that is really prone to problems.
