I'm not sure if anyone else has seen this tool or not yet, but I found it interesting. CNET has partnered with a company called RootMetrics to provide information on cell coverage based on actual information from user devices. It breaks it out by provider and then by voice/data so you can see what others have actually experienced. Of course the amount of information depends on how many people in your area are using it.

You can find the map here: http://reviews.cnet.com/cell-phone-coverage-map/

And if you own an Android or BB device (currently there is no iPhone support) you can get the app for your phone and contribute to the map by going to: http://www.rootmetrics.com/download.php

LOL. I was in an AT&T store over the weekend and I was telling them that their coverage map (plastered huge over the wall) was completely wrong. They simply stared at me in disbelief.

I hate that they claim to cover a huge portion of the contiguous 48 States but I can't get reception outside my front door in a heavily populated metropolitan area. And their claims that their coverage blankets areas is wrong as I can drive an hour out of the city and I lose coverage to the point that I cannot even roam on other carriers' networks.

Requires a username/login that I cannot find anywhere on either of those pages? Figure they would atleast put a link to registering your account on that page.
