Those buying used, do you mostly have good luck with your purchase?

I'm kinda weary dropping 500-600 and have no refund.

My wife informed me she was getting me a 4k display. Unfortunately I still game on a 980ti. I was just ooking at new egg and the new 1080 ti's are the same price as 2080 ti's. I could do it but there is no way I'm paying that much. I also noticed that in every cards reviews people are still having problems with their 2080tis.

so anyway, you guys have much luck with doing used ones?
 
I just dipped into the used GPU market, a 1080ti as well...leery as well, I chose EVGA for the warranty, but am unsure of validity because I bought through a unauthorized 3rd party seller (individual ebay seller). I suppose part of the gamble buying used.

This will be the first time in all my gaming/computer life, that I have bought used anything, the economy in the GPU's drove me nuts, and I wanted the best bang for the what I wanted to afford which was <$600.00.

I am coming from a 970, and can't wait for some 2K gaming and a better VR experience.
 
Got a $525 shipped EVGA 1080Ti FTW3 Hydro which included a full cover EKWB for it as well.

Been rocking it 24-7 for a few months now w/o any issues.
 
Second 1080 Ti I bought local off craigslist. Met him at a casino, swapped the card and cash, watch him play slot machines with my previous money, then I went home and installed it into my system. Been working FLAWLESSLY for months now.
 
Bought a used mining 1080ti from a seller here. Card arrived in the original box in good shape. Air cooler worked great for a couple weeks and then I out it under water. It's been working flawlessly for several months.

Any used buy is a gamble, but if you can be reasonably sure the card was well cared for, it's worth the discount.

By a card with serial number based warranty... most should still be carrying 2 years factory.
 
Bought a used evga 1080ti from a member here. Works great. Has 2 years of a warranty left. No regrets.

So... for the same price as a used 1080ti you can get a new, less powerful card at a price inflated by technology that has yet to be adopted by any but a few developers, a card that will be woefully outdated by the time Tray Racing and Deeply Lucrative Supersampling are enjoying widespread implementation - if they ever do.

...just sayin'. XD
 
I purchased a used EVGA 1080 TI off of eBay a couple of months ago. I was able to register it with EVGA and upload my eBay transaction (individual seller) as proof of purchase. I don't know if all the hype about 2070, 2080, and 2080 TI failures is real or just the vocal minority, but I felt it was worth taking a chance on the used 1080 TI. No problems yet.

Smart! With all those issues being talked about who knows how good that resale on the new cards will be a year from now.

Kind of getting tired of blowing large sums of money and taking a gamble on the loss a year or 2 later to upgrade.

Nice that the 1080ti is still good enough to skip this round. A stable reliable card.
 
Thanks for the replies. I did some digging and 4k monitor she got me is a freesync one. so I will probably just wait till next year and see what amd has to offer. Hopefully they will have something that will get within the range. if not, maybe nvidia cards will come down in price and I wont worry about the freesync
 
Good to here all the chatter...my ebay purchase arrives on Friday. Looking forward to the upgrade from the 970.
 
If you get a used one off [H] or ebay and are dealing with a seller with good heatware/feedback you should be covered. Be smart and don't send paypal gift or google wallet if you can avoid it. An extra $25-$50 to help cover paypal fee's for the seller can help a lot and covers your ass.

If its freesync get a used v56 with Samsung hbm to tie you over, there are two on here for 290 each... or v64

I'll probably just wait. I do 1440p just fine with my 980ti. No need to upgrade until I can get my hands on an AMD card that will get within the freesync range for 4k. hopefully the new year will bring it.
 
There aren't a lot of reports of issues with 1080Ti's. I'd buy used with confidence. Still a beast of a card.
 
I picked up an MSI GTX1080 TI Gaming X on eBay in September for $550. This card has been running flawlessly. From a value/performance perspective, this is one of my better purchases.

lol, those poor gambling addicts. I'm 100% sure the casino wants you to call and report one of their best customers!
 
Got my 1080ti from ebay in the mail today, got it installed, ran some benchmarks/test. The card appears ready for gaming. Tested it out with the Superposition Benchmark, got the numbers I was expecting to get.

Had to reload the NVIDIA drivers as it was not having the new card installed.

first I'm hearing of this...so this is pretty much Unigine Heaven 2.0?...does it put a lot of unneeded stress on the GPU?
 
I bought an ebay used 1070ti for $300 3 months ago.
Game with it daily and no issues.

At the time a new 1070ti or 1080 was probably $450, so worth the risk to me.

It's a benchmark, it's meant to stress your GPU. That said it's not Furmark... but yeah, it's Unigine's newest bench, with VR benching and 8k benching.

How. Some new games can barely run well on a single 980gtx in1080p for me. Ac:eek: comes to mind.
 
I've sold a lot of my video cards over the past 5-6 years to friends when I've upgraded, never had one fail yet. Usually Zotac or EVGA cards.
If my new 2080Ti Hybrid goes another week problem free I'll be putting my 2 yr old 1080Ti Hybrid up for sale.

I was waiting on reviews the day the 2080's were released, and saw the huge disappointment in the price for performance. I sold all 3 of my 980 Ti's and bought 2 evga 1080 Ti's black sc+ from a seller on Amazon for $525 each. They came a little dusty, but I cleaned them and they're running without any problems.
 
Could also always explore the F/S section of the [H] for a good used Titan X (Pascal) which is basically the same thing as a 1080Ti, but with more VRAM. Just say'n. :D

You can get a good EVGA one for $500 from B&H, but that sale may be gone. 1080tis (at least a month or so back) were more expensive and were more or less running out of warranty. Just be sure not to get the lower end versions which look similar as they run a good 6-8% slower. 2 years down the road I'd rather still be covered. Resale value may be higher as well. If the price is truly equal now though, it is certainly something to consider. If the 1080ti is more expensive I'd lean towards a new 2070 with warranty.
 
I bought a used 1080ti BEFORE the mining craze. Been rocking it since then w/out issues. Eventually upgraded to the eVga hybrid AIO cooler for it. IMO a better value than the RTX series. At least for what I need it for, and games I play.

I always went with open air dual/triple fan before. I'm seriously contemplating getting an aftermarket cooler.

It looks like this is the last GPU upgrade for this system; as MacOS does not support 2000 series at all, and the quad core i7 is one hell of a bottleneck in the games I play.

What is the best air cooler I could buy for the FE? I do love air cooling, but the overclocking headroom on this card makes me realize how nice water can be...

That's why I got the eVga Hybrid AIO cooler. Really quiet now :), and oc's a bit better. Kinda PIA to install, but if you can find one on sale I'd recommend it.
