I've found that the slightest touch on the USB 3 cable is enough to make a USB 3 hard drive plugged into a USB 3 port drop out. it comes back almost immediately but it's not good if there is an operation in progress at the time.

Is this a normal thing or is it something about the hardware I have.

I think it's just you. I have reorganized both my tower and where my USB 3.0 drives are while they were plugged in without issue.

I've had this problem with some Seagate externals using the micro USB 3.0 connector.

You need to try different cables, but why are you "disturbing" the cable in the first place??

It's likely the cable or a crappy PCB on the enclosure of the external drive.

Because i'm doing something else in the vicinity and either need to move the cable out of the way or brush it accidently.

My Hitachi 4TB hasnt done this ever and I have kittens playing around it.
(The drive is on the floor btw :p)
