I always give away my old hardware or sell it for very cheap so someone else can enjoy it - it usually still has some decent life in it and can play some great games still. My old video cards often become hand-me-downs to friends and family, so I can introduce them to the unique and wonderful world of PC Gaming. Was wondering what everyone else does with their old stuff once they upgrade? (see/vote at poll above)

Make it live the good life in a Linux dev box, as long as it is Nvidia anyway. Other than that pull it apart and make key chains.

If it's a high end card I sell it on ebay or amazon. If it's a mid-range or lower cards I upgrade one of my nephews' computers.

I just junked a GeForce 2 GTS 64mb card.

In fact I junked an entire computer with that video card in it.

The computer had the following:
* GeForce 2 GTS
* Case + PSU
* P3 800 CPU
* 512mb memory
* 56K Modem
* USB card
* NIC
* Plextor CD-RW burner
* Sound Blaster sound card

Here's a pic of it:

I just left the case next to a dumpster and put a sign on it that said "I'm free!"

^^ thats one nasty computer

i usually keep mine, either for a spare if a card ends up dying or if i get enough parts to put another computer together i put it in there

Man if it was working, I would have taken it off your hands! :eek:

When my friends and I upgrade, we give the old hardware to whom ever needs an upgrade. I gave my old GeForce4 to my brother in law to put in his computer, along with Jedi Knight II, he is now addicted to computer gaming, all thanks to that old peice of hand-me-down hardware.

...on second thought, that might have been a bad idea...

when i upgrade, i can't ever trash parts - video cards especially. a lot of my old stuff has been passed down and put into comps for my mom and sister. anything that isn't used is sold.

It depends, if the one I'm getting rid of is better than my best friends, I give it to him, if not, I save it for emergency use.

It was all working.
Well, next time you can have my next oldest computer - haha.
Just pay for shipping - lol.

I would have used that PC for my sister.:) All she plays is Sims 2 and I have a ti4600 perfect for that.:D

At one point when I upgraded, all the PC's got and upgrade and the old parts went on e-bay. The last time this happened everyone got a GF 6800 of some sort, I got the 6800U, and the Wife and Son each got a 6800GT. Can't affort that anymore, so I get the upgrades and they get the hand-me-downs. Not to bad though, as my son now has my 6800U.

Find someone in need an either give it to them (family), or sell it to them at a real good price (friends, co-workers), or sell it on e-bay or the [H] for a decent price.

Save one piece of everything that could cause a system to not be bootable, or that you might need for recovery of a system (a stick of RAM, a CD Rom, a floppy, a PCI video card, and a PSU), especially if you don't have another system with compatable parts.

Primary rig's old card goes to the secondary (SFF) rig, and the SFF's goes into the closet.

I keep it for a while as a backup should anything go wrong with the new card.
Once I think I won't be needing it anymore/feel it's too slow anyway it goes into a friends machine as an upgrade.

Same goes for most of my replaced hardware.

Usually when i upgrade i'll take the parts and fix up and other computers in the house, and sell or give away anything left over.

my most recent upgrade was a large one, and left me with alot of stuff i can't use in any of my machines.i guess they will either go to ebay or the forums

My old parts just get kicked down the line around here. My son, daughter and wife all have their own comps and get the "upgrades" in that order due to their gaming habits.

My 9600xt is sitting in my old dell that hasn't been turned on till I finished building this machine. Old PCI MX4000 card is in my grandma's computer, as it's plenty to run her casino games and the like. That's about what I always do, hand me down to family, or box them up till someone I know has one that breaks and needs a quick fix till they can buy a better one :D

I ended up giving my old card away to a friend since it just sat around for a couple of months, but other than that I try to sell them.

I usually give it to someone, my last computer I sold to a friend, a Shuttle SN45G with a Barton 2500 oc to 3200, radeon 9500(softmod), 512mb of ram, etc etc. Still a good computer when I sold it, could have fetched at least $500 for it just cause of it being an SFF, but he gave me a good deal on a car so I let him have it for $250. The computer before that caught fire (heatsink retainer clip broke, no thermal auto-shutdown, overclocked like mad with a dryer tube running from the A/C to the HSF, it was a sight to behold!) and I gave everything that still worked away. Most of it ended up in my mom's computer.

Now I have a wife, so most likely when I get a new computer she'll get this one since thankfully I managed to get her into gaming :)

I use trickle down compunomics.
My machine|
- Oldest sons machine |
-Middle sons machine |
- Significant Ogres machine |
-Whatever other machine may or may not need anything

Beyond that...the closet...never know when you may need a ...something

The 4 year old doesnt have his PC....yet

I bet you get the idea
