Upgrading Vista to Windows 7, with a twist...

I have a toshiba laptop, which is currently running Vista x64 Home Premium. Through school, I can get a copy of Windows 7 Professional Upgrade. I know from this that I'll need to do a "Custom (clean) Installation," due to the upgrade path.

But now, I am thinking of upgrading the harddrive in my laptop to an SSD. Will I be able to to install the SSD, put in the Windows 7 Upgrade disc, and say... just enter my Vista key to install? Or am I going to need to reinstall vista to the SSD, and then do a clean install?

I don't have a vista disc with my laptop, so it'd have to be an image of the current install...

Anyone know? Thanks in advance.

Cliffs:

- Laptop has Vista Home Premium.
- Getting a Windows 7 Pro Upgrade.
- Want to install an SSD into laptop.
- Will I need to have vista on the SSD to upgrade, or will having the key suffice?
