Upgrade using retail disc

Is it possable to do an upgrade using a retail disc? I searched but didn't find anything conclusive. What I want to know specifically is if you can upgrade a Vista 64 bit instal to Windows 7 64 bit using retail media?

Yes, should work just fine, no issues. Although i do recommend doing a fresh install with the windows 7 dvd to minimize any problems that may happen later due to a upgrade.
