Upgrade to m.2 ssd

Is the heatsink really even needed?
Depends what you're doing, for most workloads such as gaming and general productivity no.
If you're doing heavy video editing and/or encoding it can hammer the disk hard enough to get it to throttling temps.
99% of the time just a thermal pad on the nvme controller is sufficient (if any).

Also depends on your system setup, I've seen setups with multiple gpu or other pci devices that go above and below the nvme causing alot more heat buildup. I know mine is mounted above my gpu, and while it wasn't dangerous temps without the heatsink using the one that came with my motherboard dropped my nvmes temp around 10c and every little bit is worth it if it costs nothing
