Hi all,
I'm currently running Windows 10 v.1903 and wanted to get a consensus on 2004. I mainly use my PC for video encoding and that's it. Best to leave all well alone or any advantages/benefits to 2004?

Thanks for your thoughts in advance.

For me also. Real nice surprise to have Windows trying to force making a Microsoft account when trying to boot the VM up in a hurry. And of course, they didn't include a clear button to decline, you could only cancel. What a revolting POS of an OS.
Yeah I can't wait until I get tired of gaming so I can ditch windows. I already have a laptop with Linux Mint 20. I actually started with 17 but now I'm up to 20 with a fresh install on an old Thinkpad T60. I have it setup running VB with Windows 7.

or click join a domain or whatever is says in the bottom left but he knows about both.

lol
On Windows 10 Professional, there’s reportedly a “Domain Join Instead” option that will create a local user account. But that’s only on Windows 10 Professional. Windows 10 Home doesn’t have this option at all.

outrage...oh wait... windows 10 home can't join a domain???

Oh shit, well sorry, that issue didnt happen with me. So far no force of making a account online, besides the usual BS if you connect the internet early during the install. Granted if you keep connected, I have already tested a 2k4 fresh install with internet and without, no force to make a account. Though the update for me came in and I am signed into a MS account. I had set hours, but let it go through early.

They do try to force the online account but if you click enough you can make that stupid setting go away and get back to your local account.
Also, 2004 is being pushed out unless you have the delay set. Utimately you will have no choice but to apply. So far only thing breaking regularly is the backup chain. Plus the fact that 2004 takes like 20 minutes to actually apply itself.

What's the problem with ms account ?
People don't want it.
And what is benefit from local one ?
People want this instead.

Seriously, if you think about it, it's like Microsoft setup a world-wide corporate server, and you can share and access profiles and preferences (anyone remember roaming profiles from properly configured AD networks?) across devices. Some people don't need/want this, and are concerned about giving over some control of their Microsoft Windows installation to Microsoft. I don't know how bad things would break on the local computer if you had a long-term disconnection (like several weeks) from the Internet. I setup local accounts because I run a home network, and I want to control my computer accounts the way I want to.

Back to OP - I've had no problems with 2004, either fresh installations or with upgrades. I can't think of anything specific that is an advantage over 1903 though. Of course, you could always do a quick search and find this article which will tell you if there are features in the update you want.

I suppose that they get all their data through telemetry from the local account too. You can use your computer without Internet but in most situations is pointless.
We can hide us from classification only if we are born in cave and live in the same cave through all our live.

Yes I remember roaming profiles. When the executive had 2 gigabytes of porn stored in his profile, it took a full day before his login finished at a remote location. And nothing could be removed from the profile unless you cleaned every individual workstation where he had logged in previously. Wonderfully flawed system.
