Speedo and iriver have teamed up to release an MP3 player specifically designed for underwater use. The Speedo LZR Racer will sport 2GB of internal memory and about 8 hours of battery life, more than enough for your Ironman Triathlon training sessions.

Who would want wires like that hanging around your head. That is just asking to get yourself tanged in something.

Guess I don't see what's news here. There have been underwater MP3 players for a few years now.

News to me, I have not heard anything about underwater MP3 players. mind posting some links to others?

I guess the first thing I would want to know about these is whats the sound quality like underwater? I dont think I would ever wear something like this while swimming, but I would feel safe wearing them in the rain.

the news to me is that there isn't many waterproof mp3 players. shit, i had a waterproof cassette player back in the day. mp3 players have no moving parts. come to think of it, if i put my ipod in a gladlock bag it would be a waterproof mp3 player. bluetooth headphones and your set.

Well, there's the current offering by Speedo, the Aquabeat. I bought this one for my sister-in-law. She does a lot of open water swimming for triathlon training and likes it a lot.

Then there's the Finis SwiMP3. It's supposed to have great sound quality, but it only works underwater because it transfers the sound through bone conduction.

There are others, but those are the ones I looked into most.

Apologies for this but,

Fastest proper Ironman ever was done in 7:50 hours, so 8 hour battery life ain't enough.

with no chance for double Ironman training then, boo!

Explained it perfectly. The one on in the OP is a mess.

Oh good, now I can listen to my music in the tub without worry of dropping it in

I use my Ipod for running religiously. I swim a few times a week and can't even imagine how much more I'd enjoy it w/ an underwater mp3 player.
