Earlier today the United Nations Human Rights Council passed a resolution condemning countries that prevent or restrict access to the internet. Countries that continue to block access to the internet will receive a sharply worded letter condemning their actions. At that time, the UNHRC would convene a meeting to discuss passing another resolution to condemn the earlier actions.

The resolution passed by consensus “Condemns unequivocally measures to intentionally prevent or disrupt access to or dissemination of information online in violation of international human rights law and calls on all States to refrain from and cease such measure.” The digital rights group Access Now has counted at least 15 internet shutdowns around the globe in 2015, and 20 in the first half of this year. That includes the recent reported throttling of social media sites in Turkey following the terror attack on an Istanbul airport. Others have recently been reported in Bahrain and Algeria.

China is about as free as Alcatraz. Everything you hear from them take with a grain of salt. The Chinese people however, mostly live a very culturally positive life. Respecting elders, teaching principles. They don't have thugs all over their country like the USA.

You get in more trouble for downloading an episode of game of thrones than a countrys government gets into for blocking Internet access to its people. . . That makes sense to me.

As much as we love technology here, these countries who block internet have far worse human rights violations that really should be considered first. But yeah the Internet makes it easier to speak out about what is going on and also makes you a greater target to the same abusive government.

Well it's a good thing the UN decided to take a stand on this issue. Now we have twice the amount of JACK SHIT protecting our rights.

it's all pretty moot ...America just turned the internet into a "utility" with the upcoming "user tax" and handed it over to the FCC...it's all in the hands of the gubment now. You know that old saying about "watch what you wish for"?...here you go
