Ubuntu Samba setup assistance please

Just d/l the latest Ubuntu desktop and am trying to set up samba. All the guides say to install samba. The system complains it's not there and has been replaced by two other packages. If I try to install them it says they are installed.

If I right click a folder and try to share it a gui pops up saying sharing services are not installed and I need to install them. I check the samba box is checked, if I click install the box just flashes and nothing happens.

Is there some REAL simple gui ? All I want to do is share my folding directory.

post your terminal output when doing 'sudo aptitude install samba'

Thanks - that worked.
The other directions I had were:
sudo apt-get install samba smbfs

from:

which did not work.

I figured it was something simple.
