Uber is once again digging deep into the couch cushions to come up with the money to pay this $7.5 million settlement over background checks of its drivers. One lawsuit down, fifty more to go.

Uber has agreed to pay $7.5 million to settle a lawsuit brought by drivers over background checks conducted by the ride-hailing company, according to a court filing on Wednesday. The case in San Francisco federal court involved allegations that Uber terminated drivers from its platform after obtaining their consumer background reports without authorization.

Wait, they performed background checks without consent? That should result in fines to the state, not compensation to the drivers who can't pass a background check. They're employed at will.
