Fujian Jinhua Integrated Circuit Company, Ltd. (Jinhua) has been added to the list of Chinese companies that cannot receive exports from American companies. Jinhua and United Microelectronics Corp (UMC) have been accused by Micron Technology of stealing trade secrets by poaching its employees. Jinhua is now building a $5.7 billion DRAM factory in Fujian province as part of the Made in China 2025 program. This threatens Micron Technology and the American military part supply chain.

Jinhua is nearing completion of substantial production capacity for dynamic random access memory (DRAM) integrated circuits. The additional production, in light of the likely U.S.-origin technology, threatens the long term economic viability of U.S. suppliers of these essential components of U.S. military systems. "When a foreign company engages in activity contrary to our national security interests, we will take strong action to protect our national security. Placing Jinhua on the Entity List will limit its ability to threaten the supply chain for essential components in our military systems," Secretary of Commerce Ross said.

If this is one I think it is, they did more than steal employees, they recruited spies to download the schematics and data from Micron.

It's an interesting story of corporate (well, China government likely helped) espionage.

are there any US based foundries? any of them publicly traded :3

Pure fab companies? I don't think so. US fabs? Ya lots. Most of Intel's fabs are in the US, NXP is mostly US fabs, TI has quite a few US fabs and Samsung and 1 I think. That's just the ones I know of, I'm sure other companies have them too.

I bet half the equipment in the F35 and other US military equipment has some Chinese or foreign origin. The US doesn't make shit anymore, it's a dying empire.

Is anything made in the US anymore, other than babies? And I have fully expected those to be imported from China any day now.
It's been happening for decades now......not that there's anything wrong with that.

If by "doesn't make shit" you mean "Has more manufacturing output than any other nation except for China," then ya. The US makes lots of shit, more than it ever has in the past, China just makes even more. That is only talking manufactured goods though, there's a lot of other things the US does that many would still count as "making something "even if it isn't physical. Software is huge in the US, as are computer related services. I mean name the top 5 cloud providers in the world: Amazon, Microsoft, Google, IBM, and Oracle. Notice anything about that list? All US companies.

If your focus is all low-end consumer electronic gadgets then ya, not a lot of the final assembly is done in the US (though often the R&D is). However you look a little deeper and you find a ton of shit, physical and virtual, is made in the US.

It is part of Chinese culture to learn by copying the masters so this is mostly expected. I learned this from my Asian art history class.

Lol EU, China and Russian can easily defeat the gutted USA with no military intervention

Although I really hate how cynical China has become regarding espionage, I really cant feel any sympathy for micron or any of the other RAM and Flash memory manufacturers, they've been railing us very hard with their price fixing practices for decades

Here’s an idea. Don’t manufacture high tech products that require sensitive information to be disclosed in a country that is renowned for stealing IP. Maybe something to consider?

Sure, but that 8c per thousand saving buys the exec a shiny new Merc, where those greedy American wage slaves would just waste the money on food and bills

Venture capitalism has destroyed the middle class and eroded the manufacturing capabilities of North America.

Sorry I have no sympathy here. DRAM and the pricing is like medication to me. It should be affordable to everyone. It's not.

I look so forward to buying this Chinese memory hopefully at fantastic pricing.

Oh and there are a million ways to scrub memory chips so they end up elsewhere under a different name / manufacturer.

with current prices no wonder everyone will want in - dram was pure gold for some time now - will end the same as it did with nand - when new player tries to do something price falls drastically to force them out of market - but with state actors that can take loses for long time in name of self sufficiency it wont be so easy....

So, because you think cheap DRAM is a fundamental human right, you're okay with a country using theft, espionage, and abusive labor practices to produce it?

And by "affordable to everyone," do you mean everyone in the war-ravaged regions of Africa and the failed socialist states of South America? Because that would require DRAM to be free (as in beer, not speech).
