this has been like this for a while now, and i have no idea how to fix it. anyway, when booting up, i come to an OS selection screen, between XP pro and XP pro, i know by habit that the second one works, and the first one doesn't. how do i get rid of that first OS without having to ghost or backup? or should i just deal with it?

you need to edit your boot.ini. Some people say start>run>boot.ini, but that never works for me. shure fire method: right click on my computer and hit properties, go to the advanced tab and hit settings under "Startup and Recovery". There is a list of the 2 OSs, but i wouldnt edit the file unless you know what you are doing, you could fuck your shit up. Just Select the OS you know works in that drop down menu then make the time be like 1 sec or something! Problem Solved!
