We should just pass a bill that ban the internet altogether. Cyberspace is a terrible, terrible place. You know I'm right.

The National Cybersecurity Protection Advancement Act passed yesterday with overwhelming support. It’s a complementary bill to the Protecting Cyber Networks Act, which was passed the day before. Protecting Cyber Networks Act is sort of like a watered-down version of CISA, the cybersecurity bill that’s been brought forth a number of times and continually shot down due to privacy concerns.

I feel like there's a group of people out there who think sticking "cyber" in front of some other word as a prefix makes it sound really cool and high-tech, but it just ends up making people think of kids' cartoons where like they'll stick stuff like way overuse the word smurf or pony. :(

20 more years and 1984 will be a reality.

It already is.

We have three major powers in the world, with skirmishes being fought constantly to keep people afraid and the military strong.

We have mass entertainment that distracts every aspect of our society (great example, Rage Against the Machine, give music to disenfranchised youths, mouth off about the man and the system, take their money straight to the bank).

We have a joke of a political system that grants the illusion of power to the people, but really caters to corporate interest.

We have a screw everyone that isn't productive mentality, and laws that reinforce that.

We have police equipped with military hardware.

We have been brainwashed into believing that if you work hard enough, you to can become part of the 1%, when the system is rigged to keep you right where you are.

The only thing we do not have that is quickly and quietly being developed is a system to quietly herd the extremest into prison through fake rebellions and underground groups.

If you sit down and think about it, it actually is. We live in an age of unprecedented personal freedom and mobility. We bitch about it because we are stupid and don't know what life was like in the past, we attempt to change it because we dream of a utopian future, problem is everyone's utopia is different.

the left are a bunch of persistent bastards, kind of like how Hitler came to power, through persistence!

You nailed it, they believe if they keep saying something it makes it true...no matter how absurd or inaccurate. Liberalism is a mental disorder, one of my favorite quotes.

Republicans are the Left?

Oh yean, the 'National Socialist German Worker's Party' is so hard core right wing. The Government taking over companies (nationalization) is so right wing. Sarcasm if you can't tell. Eugenics in the first half of the 20th century belongs in the Left's closet at well, but thats a much longer story.
[
The biggest propaganda victory for socialists and communists in the 20th century was ingraining the idea the Nazi were 'right wing'. The idea was actually Stalin's who was trying to smear the Nazi's as 'right wing'. The American Left built on it from there to smear the right and dissociate itself.

I think they were pointing out that the Congress, as it stands right now, as well as the Senate, are both Republican controlled. There's no way this passed without their involvement. Your "anti-Obama hate gene" triggered instantly on the mention of politics so you might miss that important fact.

I triggered on what I thought was a response to the Hitler analogy. But as they say when it comes to the Republican Insiders, "with Republicans like these, who needs Democrats".

Really, when was the last time Republicans shrank government in any significant way. The name for what Republican Leadership is, in Canada and a few other places is Progressive Conservatives. Which is an oxymoron because to simplify it, progressive essentially means today is pro-big government, pro-government solutions to everything and this should run contrary to Conservatism. That fits the Republican Leadership 99% of the time, despite the lip service.

The only time spend sort of shrank in recent times was under Clinton when he and Republicans cashed in Reagan's peace dividend mainly so they could start spending that money elsewhere.

I'm hoping I interpreted them right. Then again, it's a political discussion so who the hell knows.

In general, you are right though. You'd probably have to go back to the 1800's to answer that question, and Republicans back then were Democrats :p

Also, Reagan bloated the deficit to ridiculous proportions. If anything, Clinton just kind of made it manageable but only by that peace dividend you speak of. Still, that entire dividend was based on a weak Russian economy rather than anything of substance.

I was more responding on the voting count. The claim was that the left were being persistent, but during the voting, more republicans voted 'yes' than democrats, and in the other corner, more democrats voted 'no'. Looking at the numbers one way, twice as many Republicans voted yes, and twice as many Democrats voted no

I'm not an american native so it's not always clear which side is which. So who is the left? I thought they were the democrats.

Democrat - Republican - Labour - Conservative = All the same agenda.

They all work for the same people, just not the 99%.
