For months, Twitter has offered few details about what it would do to take on harassment and hate speech: that changed late yesterday, when Twitter posted a timeline with specific promises on actions it will take, starting next week. On October 27, Twitter will expand what types of "non-consensual nudity" (aka "revenge porn") that it takes action against. The company will already act when a victim complains, but Twitter will soon act even in cases where the victims may not be aware images were taken, instances like upskirt photos and hidden webcams.

This won’t be a quick or easy fix, but we’re committed to getting it right. Far too often in the past we’ve said we’d do better and promised transparency but have fallen short in our efforts. Starting today, you can expect regular, real-time updates about our progress. Sometimes, this may be insight into the difficult questions we’re asking ourselves, even before we have the answers. This is the first time we’ve shared this level of visibility into our work, and we hope it helps build trust along the way.

The big question is what do they define as hate speech. Everything non-left? Whites who have differing opinions from non-whites? People who see the Civil War as part of US history and it must be preserved vs. those who want to erase it from all forms of media? Every word that comes from Trump's fingers? Or will they limit it to genuine hate speech?

There's no way that this won't be abused... leave punishment up to those qualified, not some SJW on a feelings rampage. They better clearly label what they consider hate speech and leave all of the judgements open.

Slippery slope here. What if some slut posts a risky picture then a friend puts it on his wall, a few months later she finds a reason to be mad at said guy then goes after him? I mean they are considering voyeuristic stuff and risky things on the revenge porn side. If that's considered revenge porn then this could go south easily. Same thing for hate speech, since it seems that definition changes every few days now

You do realize that by their own definition, hate speech can't be generated from people of color. Also people of color can't be racist.

They teach this stuff in incoming freshmen classes.
Classes categorize racism as institutionalized racism, built into the structure of society. There is no structural racism built into society, the community, economy, regulations, laws, and practice for white people. What people commonly refer to as racism or racist behavior, is actually the definition of prejudice (prejudement or biased opinion, not based on fact) and bigotry (fear, distrust, prejudice, or hatred toward an ethnicity, race, religion, orientation). If a person in a position of power uses prejudice to perform an act of discrimination (denying equal participation of a group based on prejudice), then it would be considered racism if that is a frequent perception of society.

Stopped using twitter because nearly half the replies to any message are hidden and on mobile you don't even see the option to show them, they are just completely gone. I imagine things are just going to get worse to the point of being unusable.

Do you expect a college freshman at a party school to understand that? All they hear is blah blah blah, white people are racists, blah blah blah, white privilege is bad, blah blah blah, where can I go drinking and not get caught?

Most people today seem to think that Caucasian is not a race. I guess it is just like in pigments white is the absence of color so white must also be absence of race. If you look at white from a scientific side as in light, then white is actually a blend of all colors of the visible spectrum. So artists think white is absence of racial qualities and scientists think white has the most racial qualities possible.

Just so we're clear here, the fact that the people in power used their prejudice against straight white men to discriminate against them by making it legally impossible for a hate crime to be committed against a straight white male doesn't count as structural racism...

lol white privilege. Whenever someone brings that up, I always tell them, yeah ask Obama or Ben Carson or countless other successful men & women of color about white privilege.

How about we call it , "Get off your ass and do something privilege"? :D

Even Twitter never expected it would start WW3.
Gotta tie up those loose ends.

How about they just shut twitter down completely? The concept always seemed totally stupid to me anyway. Now you kids get off my lawn.
