I have no idea why Twitter keeps buying all these machine learning start-ups. You have to wonder how or why a company that has never posted a profit and lost more that $2 billion since 2011 continues to buy other companies. If someone has some insight into this strategy, I'd like to hear it.

Today, we’re very excited to announce that we’re expanding our capabilities in machine learning by acquiring Magic Pony Technology, a London-based technology company that has developed novel machine learning techniques for visual processing. Our acquisition of Magic Pony builds on other investments we’ve made in machine learning, beginning with the acquisitions of Madbits in July 2014 and Whetlab in June 2015. Magic Pony’s team will be joining Twitter Cortex, a team of engineers, data scientists, and machine learning researchers dedicated to building a product in which people can easily find new experiences to share and participate in.

They're going to predict popular tweets and offer to sell them to pertinent brands/personalities.

twitter is part of Skynet...

lol did you know that Skynet get automatically capitalized be the [H] forum software?! maybe it's part of Skynet too...

Because twitter the product/service can never be profitable.

They buy other companies in the hopes of being able to diversify into the next hot thing and secure more investment capital by having growth potential.

AI is what the analysts like now. AI and big data. They have a pile of data, just not obviously useful data.
