im trying to set up an FTP on windows server 2008 i have done these two things

    1.Install IIS
    2.Install FTP for IIS 7

on the server computer i can access the ftp on windows explorer ftp://192.168.0.117 but on a computer on the same network i do not get the same results.

after i can get access over the internet is there a way to give access to certain people like my brother to get on who lives somewhere else.

this is used in a home setting. thanks

    EDIT:
trying to setup FTP using FILEZILLA

If other on the lan can't see the ftp it's probably the firewall on the server.

Forward the FTP ports (21 and 22) to the server from the router. Then ftp://WANIP should work. Or if you got dyndns (free) ftp://blah.dyndns.org or what ever you set it as.

If it is a simple home setting download filezilla server and use it. Then just uninstall the iis features. This also makes it easy as it is a seperate account setup vs using the ad accounts or local accounts on the server.

Yea you need to open the ports in your router like you would with iis but any client that supports ftp should work when connecting to it.

I recommend ioFTPD as an FTP server rather than the windows built-in server. ioFTPD is a little complicated to get setup the first time (no graphical UI), but there are a lot of guides. It's the best FTP server I've run across yet.

port 20 is FTP data, forward that. Not sure why the poster above said 22, 21 is control and 20 is data.

If this is a residential internet account, have you considered that your ISP could be blocking your ability to host an FTP server?;)
