1 x CABLE ISTAR|TC-ATA-C SATA ADPTR

I was doing a new build, but I bought most of my parts off of other websites.
My build had a Pentium 4 2.8GHz 800 FSB and a GeForce FX 5900.

I also got a beast of a monitor to go with it. Viewsonic P225FB-4 22" CRT. It could do 2,048 x 1,536 at 79 Hz.

I built the same PC as you did OP, just 6 months earlier. I happened to catch this excellent review from Anand on the day of the HL2 launch, and that made up my mind:

http://www.anandtech.com/show/1545/3

I had been itching for a graphics upgrade for months, but couldn't justify the cost of the 6800 vanilla or GT model, and of course since a P4 heater was out of the question, the 6600GT PCIe was out. This perfectly-timed review (probably intentional by Nvidia) gave me the option I needed, so I rocked a new build for HL2 :D

$204.27

Was my first large purchase from Newegg ever, so that along with the release-day video card purchase meant I was taking a big risk. But I was very pleased with both Newegg and XFX :D

Bought the case locally to save on shipping costs (Antec Sonata I with 380w TruPower). Reused my CD burner.

EDIT: OP, are you sure you bought a 6600 GT AGP and paired it with an Nforce 4 motherboard? Those were PCIe only :D

Yeah we do have very similar systems!

You are right! So I'm trying to figure out how I made that work. Looking back at the time table, I bought the 6600gt in March and the rest of the parts in May. I just assumed that I had stuck the 6600gt in my old dell and then popped it into my new build. Not quite thought. Since HardForum goes back so far also, I was able to look at my old forum post to see what happened.

According to an old FS thread this was the system I put the 6600gt in:
price: 500obo price is best offer
buyer pay shipping proably close to $100
trades: nice lcd monitors plus cash looking for preffably a 17"-19" slight use/new

what i have for sale
Dell 15 inch M782p
Dell dimension 8200 series
2.4Ghz Pentium 4 processors 533mhz
i850e chipset
512mb (2x256mb) Samsung PC800 40ns RDRAM
40 gig Western Digital Hard drive
200 gig Maxtor 7200 rpm Ultra ATA/133 8mb buffer seek time <9.3ms
Nvidia TI4200 4x agp graphics card
dvd+-rw drive 8x dvd burns
samsung cd-rw drive 40x
HK computer sound system (subwoofer with 2 highs)

selling cuz im building a new system, computer has never been OC and has been well taken care off

Once I ditched that system I built this system:

hey i just put together this system

A64 3200+ veince core
msi neo plat 4 mobo
1 gig crosair xms pc3200 ram
xp-90 with panaflo fan
ati x800 xl

so i was wondering what the best way for me to keep my x 800xl kool

i have an 120mm ehxaust fan which i am placing under the video card to move some of the hot air out the case but i think i will need mroe if i want to get a good oc

Question is where did I get the ati x800 xl? I didnt get it from NewEgg? lol Also, what did I do with the 6600gt?

Edit:

That Dell brings back some memories. It was actually my first computer. haha
CPU progression:
2.4Ghz Pentium 4 processors 533mhz
A64 3200+ veince core
Q6600
i5-2500k

Had a lot of gpus though.

It was a battery hog, and took poor pictures. But it was digital :)

Coincidentally, $116 is about what I spent on my most recent digital camera, purchased a few months ago. Cameras have come a long way.

Oh hey, look its my first build thread ever asking about these parts here at [H]: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=987243

Bought the processor at Newegg, the Mobo + GPU at TD, and the rest at ZipZoomFly (RIP).

That reminds me of a later purchase (for WoW and Oblivion) where I jumped to an X2 4400+ ($580). However I couldn't afford that so I went goddamned insane and bought an open box damaged one with bent pins for $184.

That proc is still running in my brother's PC! :D Best risky payoff in gear ever!

1 x Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit 1-Pack for System Builders - OEM [$192.98]

I remember this. I was looking for the cheapest upgrade possible from Windows Vista on my old Q6600. I had been stuck with it for a year because I had too much RAM for a 32-bit OS like XP to work properly.

I often found myself using my old Athlon XP machine with Windows XP for anything that didn't require 64-bits or a lot of RAM. This purchase marked the point where I was finally able to use/enjoy my Q6600 full-time.

Before Newegg, I purchased everything at Fry's. I've never been an Amazon fan for anything besides Kindle and MP3s.
