I didn't realize Facebook made it so difficult to quit. Hell, like most social media sites, half the pages on Facebook are fake profiles or haven't been updated in forever.

Facebook is employing the opposite principle by hiding the link to delete an account, burying the link to deactivate an account, and by asking users to fill out a survey before they leave. These efforts make it more difficult for someone to leave Facebook, which might be just as effective as convincing them that they don’t want to leave.

Maybe it's just me but it seems like Facebook is withering on the vine. Wasn't that long ago that I'd pull it up and there were all kinds of status updates from my friends. Now there is very little and most of that is just shared crap. Either it's just my friends that are tired of it or FB is going the way of MySpace.

My experience with facebook was getting spammed with a virused email from an ex girlfriends facebook account.
Seems like an awesome place.

Just like AOL.

Except you don't pay for FB.

If you want to quit FB, stop going to facebook, block the URL at your router, don't download the really terrible facebook app. I go onto facebook maybe twice in a week, not sure why you would need to 'quit' it, just don't live on it.

Google+ is worse. I've deactivated it like a dozen times, but 2 weeks later it will be active and sending me status updates.

If you have a gmail account and actively use it thats why. Google+ is attached to your google login.

The only thing I use facebook for is to occasionally get discount codes from amazon or other websites.

I don't think this is the case at all.

I find that as my friends have children or start families, they have less and less time to spend on FB, and since I'm getting older, more and more of them are going that route. Most of my younger or single friends aren't changing their posting habits much.

lol like most people who quit anything actually ever bother to go deactivate their account. Rather most companies are sick of maintaining their inactive account and kill it on their behalf.

lol it might make people just say "Forget it, i'll just not login anymore." Make people go through a 20 page survey full of flashing ads with so many popups it will crash the computer.

The main problem I have is that I deactivated/deleted my account, and still getting the "More reasons to come back to Facebook" emails.

Oh, and they don't seem to have an unsubscribe link in the emails.

I think it is morphing some ... I use it mainly to get updates from businesses or TV shows ... I also enjoy things like exercise tips and other features that are available through page subscriptions via liking ... I think the gaming part of FB is starting to wither a little since I don't see as many annoying game requests anymore (although I think the games have just moved to mobile rather than dying out completely) ... FB still has many useful functions but it is clearly not suited for everyone's tastes or needs

so, block Facebook. I was on Alibaba and some sellers wouldn't stop e-mail me so I flagged them as spam, problem solved.

that's the problem though. You have to find work arounds to get them out of your life.

The only reason I'm on there is to keep up appearances with my significant others and let others know about major changes in my life fast like getting married. Some people are not in contact with me every day, some not even every week or so. It's nice to be able to broadcast to everyone significant messages using their service.

Xbox Live used to be annoying to quit. You had to call and talk to a representative. The girl I talked to wasn't as pushy as I expected, but she did try a couple things to keep me on.

Your account isn't actually deleted unless you , I think, call them and have them remove all the information.

I made one for my family a while back and unwanted "friend" invites came about. I deleted the account. I thought it was deleted, but its still there and was only deactivated. Right now I have a fake account for games and free products from companies that require FB.

I'm not sure if I should be sad that it took this long for the plebs to figure out there's a problem, or impressed that the plebs figured out there's a problem.

Good info for everyone that uses the internet:
