Does anyone know how to track all the files installed by a program? Also all the registry changes?

I want to know EXACTLY what goes on during the installation of a certain program. thanks

I had a program for win98 that would do this... cannot remember the name though....

hmm might be useful at a later point. I d/l this program called "Disk and Registry Alert" and it looks GREAT, but slight limitation on registry watcher unless you buy. I'm thinking about it, but I was hoping there would be an open source one available. This thing is so shotty looking I would think it was open source.

Even thought this is about creating an MSI, this might apply to you:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/257718

The key you are looking for is the snapshot maker thingy. It should create a file that has a list of all the changes the app made ( file, registry, dlls. Everything ).

Hmmm, If anyone knows a free MSI packager, I would like to know. That one is 50 bucks.

I dont know anything free but i know that the Ghost AI Builder part of Ghost Enterprise will do what you want
