Toshiba THNSNH 256GB SSD Review - Toshiba's massive foundry capabilities allow it to develop some of the leading SSDs for the OEM market. These SSDs come pre-installed in the latest computers with the option for an SSD, and today we look at the Toshiba THNSNH in comparison to current top-flight enthusiast-class SSDs.
 
The biggest downside of a Toshiba SSD (outside of "You can't get it here.")?

It's Toshiba itself. I've never met a company that was so actively customer-hostile when dealing with simple warranty and service issues. That, right there, is a MASSIVE deal-killer. As I don't want to have to fight with them (and with them EVERYTHING'S a fight) when something inevitably breaks.

This could be the highest performance SSD on the market for the next ten years, at a tenth of the price of what everyone else was charging, carry a lifetime warranty, and get me hookers and blow and I still wouldn't buy it.

But I agree, why buy from a bully?
 
Great review. I appreciate you taking the time to investigate this OEM drives performance and comparing it against the competition. these are the things that keep me coming back for more. I have to wonder, why not include the Corsair drives that you've reviewed recently?

I have the 128gb version and my Wifes PC has the 256gb. Bought them 3 weeks ago at best buy for 89.99 and 129.99 respectively.

I think this was more directed towards people getting this drive in their OEM build from Dell or from whomever.

You wouldn't be dealing with Toshiba for a replacement. You'd be dealing with the system builder.

And really, if you want the 'retail focused' version of this drive that has some higher end features like nCache and the warranty just look at the Sandisk Extreme 2.

Not sure they are the same.

And when you open the box, it's an OEM drive with a THNSNH model. I'll take some pictures when I get home, of my 128, the box, and the receipt.
 
Heres a shot of the CrystaldiskInfo of my 128gb that I bought at BestBuy. I can't find the damn box, or subsequently because they are kept together, the receipt. I'll root around some more, hoping the wife didn't trash it.

Heres a picture of the box and part number. It's HDTS on the box, but THNSNH on the actual SSD inside.

i can confirm what jorona is saying.

hdts part number from best but has in the oem thnsnh drive i got the 256gig version
