Toshiba SD-R5372V max speed only 4x?

So I picked up a new burner for my comp and its suppose to do 16x DVD-R. It seems it will only do 4x or 2x.

I am using Nero Ultra version 6.6.0.14. This seems to be the latest version that I could find. I am currently using 8x rated Ritek DVD-R's. These discs burnt at 8x on my old NEC 8X burner with Nero. I dont want to go pickup some 16x discs yet cuz I have a 50 pack of the 8x Riteks left still.

Will this new burner not burn at 8x and just run a default speed of 4x, 2x when not using 16x media? I really dont feel like sending it back for RMA, any ideas?

Unfortunately, it's the media itself - or more specifically, the support of such media by the drive's firmware. A lot of 16X burners have trouble with or don't fully support 8X Ritek media: Their firmware either incorrectly detects or fails to detect the ATIP information from the media, limiting the maximum allowable burn speed to 4X.
