I think it's kids playing the stuff I mean I seriously wouldn't waste time in some of these games are 10+ years old alot of the titles are just Static and better stuff has come out but it's not in the Top 100. Some of the games were good at maybe release maybe in 2011 but not now.
There are some gems like Elden Ring, Hunt Showdown and Stray in there Destiny well that game never ends.

I stared at that list for about an hour over this weekend and came to the same conclusion you just did. I've got like twelve more unlocks to go in Vampire Survivors and I'm done there. I plan on playing the next league of Path of Exile though.

Maybe its just bots farming CSGO for crates and drops to be sold you could run a macro easily to mimic a real player.

I'll give Vampire Survivors a go when it's out of Early Access, which looks like should be soon.

its actually really fun. I relate it to some builds in Path of Exile. I like "autopilot" builds where I drop a totem or drag around summons where they do the killing and I just dodge fire. this is the same exact playstyle. just don't get hit, and let the things kill stuff.

RimWorld, Factorio, City Skylines, Crusader Kings, I feel many of those are among the best among their competition of similar games, maybe some are a bit there because of an hype and marketing machine like Cyberpunk or franchise entry a la Fifa, but in general seem to be long built word of mouth.

Could be my total lack of knowledge, but it does not seem impressive I would not agree, it does not create some awe of human top creation in history looking at it, like it could for the best musics/movies, could be prejudice

It's embarrassing, but I played the demo of Euro Truck Simulator 2 and it was kinda neat. I don't remember why I tried it, I generally don't play games like that. Glad they have a demo because there are aspects that are uber annoying that the full game probably doesn't fix.

I guess you could say I'm stuck in a rut with Quake "live". It runs smoothly on any PC I happen to be using and it doesn't piss me off. Used to be a lot more customizable. You could have a 5 minute match or 30 and you could get silly and have like 20 or 30 bots on a map designed for like 4 to 8 players.

The state of gaming in general isn't great. In the 90s and early 00's, nearly every year felt significant for gaming. I remember consistently playing games that would change my perspective on how games should be played. In the last few years, all we have gotten are a smorgasbord of Battle Royales, roguelikes, and Minecraft-inspired clones. Sure, there are some good games on that list, but the point seems to reflect more on the average age and quality of the games on the list. Many of the games have low review averages and some of them literally aren't even games and are just software which isn't particularly helpful to anyone (e.g. VR Chat). The games that are better reviewed are all basically ancient. It's impossible to ignore the big picture.

On the upside, this have given me an opportunity to catch up on virtually every game I have ever had the desire to play because there's barely anything exciting coming out these days. I'll admit I have my eye on Scorn at the moment but games like this one seem rare in this day and age.

I thinking ton of people down voted the good games on Steam so gamers are stuck in a rut they created themselves while developers moved to Epic.

Is this a hot take? Sure there are a lot of fillers and MTX whale baits but there are several genuinely good games too, from triple AAA to indie passion projects. Stray, Elden Ring, Stardew Valley, Rimworld, Project Zomboid, Civ 6 (even though it is a downgrade from previous, it is not bad game), No Mans Sky and Phasmophobia for VR, Don't Starve, RDR2, Crusader Kings 3, Stellaris (one of my favourite games although the developers are busy breaking it with every patch) etc...

Sure the state of triple AAA games is bad right now (we are clearly heading into a crash) and most of the bigger budget games in the list are older classics but don't automatically diss the smaller double AA and Indie games. Hell they are the games I play the most these days because they are made with more heart instead of just money in mind and remind me of the good old days of videogaming.

The biggest ones are Free 2 Play, have low system requirements, and a gambling element. Wallpaper engine is running 24/7 for the people who have it installed. Stuff like L4D2 costs $5 these days and can run on a potato.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is absolutely awesome and I've put 100+ hours into it the last week. Monster Hunter is also pretty much the best selling franchise in Japan.

Not sure what you expected.

Hears of Iron IV is the only real surprise for me somewhat early on.

I don't have any real issue with the top 100 played. For the majority of them, I can see the reasons why, even if I wouldn't play it.

But then again, I haven't returned 1/4+ of the games on the list like someone else might have.

I don't know a lot of the games, but there do seem to be a lot of multiplayer games which would last longer then some singleplayer game you finish in 6-7 hours.

A lot of really great ones up there IMO, even ones I haven't played I can see the appeal. Also aw yeh Hell Let Loose!~

reminds me of an old guy at the arcade always standing there complaining nobody is over in the pinball section... I mean, it's kinda funny, kinda sad... I wish him well

shows that co-op multiplayer games are the most popular...hopefully single player games don't go away

I'm legitimately shocked Left 4 Dead 2 is still this popular. I didn't really even like the second one that much, but clearly a shitload of people disagree.

I find it impressive how Gary's Mod is still up there all these years later. Steam page shows 2006 for retail release. I remember when it was just a mod, not a paid game.
My son and his friends play this a lot. They constantly bounce between Garry's Mod, Team Fortress, Roblox (which I constantly tease him for being 18 and playing Roblox, lol), and whenever other flavor of the week they find.

OP all those games suck because they're all multiplayer and even according to a thread/poll I created here a while back, the vast majority of us, at least our demographic here, prefer single player games.
