The Glorified Servant is one of the reasons I loved The 7th Saga, despite everyone else hating it. While you're still The Glorified Servant, the games story involves you competing against other characters. Wizardry VII also took this approach, but on a much grander scale. If you don't do a quest, somebody else will, and they'll steal your much needed item, at which point, you need to then track them down. The difference is that with The 7th Saga, it was more of an illusionary competition, as the game world was static, whereas that's not the case with Wizardry VII.
