While they will look very much like the originals, all three Tomb Raider games are getting updated for Steam, courtesy of Realtech VR. Each will utilize a new 3D engine that allows for better lighting effects and shadowing. Xbox controller support and DLC packs will also be included.

Realtech VR has announced that it will release remastered versions of Tomb Raider 1, 2, and 3 on Steam. These remasters will be based on the mobile versions, support OpenVR, feature a new 3D engine, and be free to all owners of these games. Got all that? Realtech has made remasters that require the DOS version of each game on Steam.

I highly doubt these will see much play. I'd like to see some metrics on remastered old games to see if it was even worth it.

Not really, you get it for free if you have the dos version, big difference.

But seems kind of pointless without graphical updates. The dos version worked fine with dosbox.

Same.

If it doesn't actually look substantially better, and the only change is a lighting engine... I'd rather just play the original version for nostalgia sake.

I'm fairly certain that LOZ OOT has better graphics and more fluid gameplay than this remaster.

"These remasters will be based on the mobile versions"

Oh. Good. Because that always works out soooo well.

You're telling me you don't have faith in Square Enix, a company which put out wonderful ports of Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 6? Surely, this time, the game won't look worse than the original, or is heavily unoptimized, or have a terrible mobile UI!

I don't know whom this REaltech Vr company is , though I have always thought vr in the mass market should start with simple games and slowly move forward ( so people could train themselves to VR and not get overwhelmed ) . the original tombraider is ideal for this.
But...those textures in the teaser are pretty ho-hum....

If they would have contacted me ( seeing as they are giving it away free to existing owners ) , I would not have had a problem letting them use the texture set I did for the GLIDOS version way back in 2004 .

Don't pay attention to the clickbait headline, here. Official statement from Crystal Dynamics:
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/tomb-raider-1-2-3-remasters-have-been-cancelled/

While we always welcome passion and excitement for the Tomb Raider franchise, the remasters in question were initiated and advertised without seeking approval. As such, they were never officially sanctioned. Ensuring fans receive high quality gaming experiences is at the heart of our mission as a company, which requires all projects to go through proper channels. We are thrilled about the future of Tomb Raider, and cannot thank fans enough for their continued support and excitement for the brand.

These remasters were advertised without seeking approval.
