Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands

Damn, alright I need to put some more time in.

I see Fallen Ghosts is available standalone (outside of the season pass) starting today. Based on the feedback in this thread it sounds like it's safe to skip the season pass and Narco Road and just grab Fallen Ghosts.?

Edit: pricing is a little wacky on Steam. $40 for season pass to get both DLC, or buy DLC individually for $15 each. Wonder if this means more is planned for the seasonpass.

Now that I have played both I have to respectfully disagree. I haven't finished either but spent enough time with both to have a general opinion on them.

What is common to both DLCs is that they generally feel less polished than the base game. Glitches, mistakes, less attention to detail across the board is what characterizes them.. Narco road at least has a little new content, while fallen ghosts basically makes you fight against re-skinned unidad troops. Yes there are a few new soldiers, but I'm not impressed by them.

As the supposed new enemies are the worst, the invisible soldiers are useless they basically just sit in the grass waiting for you to shoot them, I don't think even one of them has gotten off a shot at me so far.
The jammer soldiers are just plain annoying. It's one thing that they can jam your drone, but this is overkill. You can't use night vision, can't tag enemies, can't even use binoculars. And even your vision is glitchy, what they hacked your eyes too? That's just stupid.
The armored soldiers are also overkill, ok make them extremely durable, but invincible? That's stupid again. If nothing else the stopping power of the bullets should make them stagger and fall down.
The only new unit that I say is good are the elite snipers who are more realistic as they can notice you from a bigger distance compared to the regular snipers who wouldn't see you even when you danced in front of their eyes.
Apart from these the game is basically more of the same as the base game. Not saying that's a bad thing, I'm still enjoying it, but for the price it's pretty meh.

As for Narco Road, there are a bunch of new activities, that are actually fun and not meant to annoy you, but are meant to make you have fun. As opposed to fallen ghosts new rebel ops that are inherently made to make you suffer. For example enemies spawn behind you inside the building you just cleared.
The missions are more interesting, and varied since you're working on the other side, which is a cool way to switch things up.
Also the fact that you're on your own gives the game a new flavour, it's not more of the same, because you have no team, you can't rely on sync shot to take enemies out easily you have to do it all the hard way, and you also can't be reckless because there is noone to revive you if you fall, you get one chance here.
About the only thing they fucked up in it is the controls of planes and helicopters, they tried to make them more agile, but the controls became weird.

I bought this game Thursday during the sale without doing much research. Just seen a few "trailers" for the game that made it look pretty awesome. Especially in the graphics department. So I got it. Installed it earlier today with intentions of spending most of the day playing it while it rained.

Sad to say that I requested a refund on the game as it's a third person "shooter" and not a first person shooter like I had originally though. Did some searching and it seems playing the game 100% in first person isn't possible. You can only aim/shoot in first person, but running around you have to do in third person.

Really disappointed. :(

So, I've finished Narco Road. I'm not planning on a long review, I already mentioned some of the things I liked about it in my previous posts.

The Good:

  • More fun than the original game
  • You have no team, forcing you to adopt a different playstyle. And increased tactical awareness.
  • More variety in missions
  • Has some new content (not much, but some, monster truck / race car)
  • Soundtrack is much much better, I mean I wouldn't listen to this music on my own accord, but it's high energy, and fits the atmosphere, as opposed to the depressing beeping in the main game. Where the first thing I did when entering a vehicle is turn off the radio every time.
  • It's light-hearted, trying to inject some comic relief in there, I say it works more often than not.
  • Despite the above, the story is better, more believable.
  • They actually took the time to make new cut-scenes and record new lines with the voice actors, based on some other aspects of the game (mentioned in the cons) I wouldn't have expected this.
  • Ending is well done I was thinking "wouldn't it be nice if they allowed you to do that" And then I realized 2 seconds later that they really did. Even if it felt haphazardly thrown together the intention was good.
The Bad:
  • Feels like a rush job, with all the baggage that comes with that
  • Continuing that thought: it's unpolished, lots of small mistakes / oversights for example leftover content from the base game that should've been replaced, or at least disabled
  • Still relating to the rush-job some missions are broken (not completely but enough for you to sigh in frustration) There are numerous situations that could've been addressed during testing. I'm not going to list all the glitches cause it would fill the entire page, and these were not present in the main game.
  • They increased the frequency and aggressiveness of patrols to the point that they're completely unavoidable. And they interfere with you even during missions, often resulting in failure.
  • The nitro button. They wanted to make this the fast and furious dlc, but it's just bad how this is implemented, and the worst is that the enemies can and do use it too. Which means they can catch up to you in 2 seconds from hundreds of meters, further exaggerating the problem I mentioned in the previous point.
  • The bouncing turd, aka death riders bike. Bikes were already pretty bad in the game, but this one is even worse.
  • They fiddled with the plane and helicopter controls, and they made them worse, noticeably.
  • They re-use some locations from the main game, unchanged, and they expect you to believe that these serve a completely different purpose this time. There were plenty of places not visited or explored during missions in the main game, they should've used those. Or at least change these a little.
  • Side activities are really lame (not the side missions, those are fine) I mean the drift, jump, climb, trial, acrobatics aka the pentathlon of boredom.

I think overall it's a 7/10, if you like the main game and want to switch things up slightly then it's worth playing, or if you want more of exactly the same, then go for fallen ghosts. This is not connected to that in any way, as far as I can tell you're not even playing as the same operator in Narco Road as in the other parts.

I hope we get another DLC but I'm not counting on it.

I just wanted to play, instead I'm sitting here waiting for a 7.7GB patch to download. Hell member when companies actually cared and distributed patches as difference files? Westwood if I remember correctly had a patch tool that would take the old file and use a differences file to update it. This way they could fix a hundred mb file with an 1mb patch. Instead of making you dowlnoad a ton of shit for a few small bugfixes like we see here.

Internet might be faster, but not that fast.

I read up on what this tier 1 mode is supposed to be, but it seems really stupid to me. Levelling up weapons? And making enemies bullet sponges? Who asked for that? I sure as hell did not. On the contrary keep that kind of shit far away from me.

It's totally optional.

The Fallen Ghosts DLC:

I have to say compared to Narco Road this is the worse of the two in almost every comparison I can think of. Which is kind of a disappointment as the word on the streets was this would be the real deal.

So the good:

  • More of the same as the main game
Yes that's it, there is nothing else I can mention.

The Bad:

  • New Rebel ops. They would be good, if they weren't so god damn hard and the game wouldn't force you into unfairly disadvantaged positions all the time. Some rebel ops were hard in the main game as well, but manageable. But these are nothing more than exercises in frustration. So much so that after 2-3 tries I completely gave up on doing rebel ops and ignored them trough the entire story. Making that feel shorter.
  • But it's not just that, it's shorter anyway than Narco Road. I feel I got less missions, and less interesting missions at that. There were a few better ones but overall it's pretty dull.
  • Some of the missions are so amateurishly set up that it's laughable. It's extremely biased against you, Instead of clever design in the missions they use cheap triggers and scripted events to make em harder.
  • Soldiers can spawn in front of you not 5 meters away, or behind you in a building with no other entrances. It's not just infuriating but breaks immersion as well.
  • But at the same time there is almost always some AI tuning bug in the missions that you can exploit. Like the AI refuses to enter a certain building or area. Or leave an area.
  • The new faction you fight is basically re-skinned unidad, and they didn't even bother to change the messages the game gives, so you get unidad patrol on alert and so on regardless of it being a different faction.
  • The last mission is completely underwhelming, nothing unexpected apart from two helicopters being spawned right above your head out of thin air, and the weather locked in to foggy and rainy to make it harder to take enemies out from a distance. Very cheap ways to try and raise difficulty. And they still fail miserably at it.
  • The new enemy types they introduced are god awful.
  1. The Invincible : Armored soldiers, who are completely unaffected by any weapons including grenade launchers unless shot in the head, you can't even make them fall down or stagger any other way. Completely detached from reality.
  2. The Invisible : Soldiers equipped with cloaking suits. Who are completely worthless. They are so fragile that any hit on any part of their bodies from even the smallest calibre weapons is instant death for them. And they're using some crossbow so they don't even attack you unless you get very close. They're just target practice sitting in the bushes waiting for you to take them out in thermal vision. Their only real "advantage" is that you can't use sync shot on them you have to take them out personally. If this is their way of trolling crysis it's hilarious. But if this is real then it's pathetic.
  3. The Jammers : Soldiers equipped with portable jamming devices, that don't just disable your drones but also your minimap, and tagged enemies. And night vision / thermal vision as well, on top of making the picture look glitchy even in regular vision mode. Like they're jamming your eyes or IDK. Completely bonkers. They went to overboard with this. They would be well balanced if it would only disable the drone and minimap/tagged enemies but still leave your vision unaffected so you can still detect enemies, but this way it's overkill. Each time a jammer got in range I turned and ran until I was out of their range.
  4. Elite snipers : They overdone these as well. They are snipers who can detect you from much greater distances than regular ones. Which would be good if that's where the story would end. But they're also infallible. Meaning they can't miss no matter what evasion you try. They always hit you even if you're in a helicopter flying erratically at 150mph. If you're inside their field of vision and don't get into cover you die.
  • The story is completely run of the mill, bland and dry, including the ending. No unexpected surprises no twists, nothing that stood out.
  • Since the last patch the game regularly plays fart noises, no kidding. At first I Thought it was in my head or I must have misheard something but after dozens of times I'm certain I'm not imagining it.

Once again I have to take my hat off for this continued support:

Title Update 6: Patch Notes

Greetings Ghosts,

Below, you will find the patch notes for Title Update 6, which will be available on July 21st at approximately 10AM UTC for PC, Xbox One, and Playstation 4. Similar to previous updates, TU6 will include a brief maintenance period to update servers for the new version. The patch will be up to 8 GB on PC depending on your client, and up to 9.5 GB on consoles depending on the version already installed. An in-game notification will alert players when the update becomes available. Please note that players will need to reboot the game to apply the patch, and will need to have the same version of the game in order to play co-op.

Title Update 6 brings with it vast improvements to the helicopter controls and handling. We have made the helicopters not only more authentic, but easier to control. The new controls will be default, however, if you prefer to go back to the original controls, you will be able to by deactivating the default and returning to the previous set up. In addition to the controls, we have also added crosshairs for aiming, guided rockets, and other improvements that are listed below.

Along with the helicopter overhaul, Title Update 6 contains bug fixes and improvements.

Title Update 6 will also usher in season three of the Live Season Challenges, with a new focus, new challenges, and new rewards! Additionally, Challenges will now include some additional gameplay parameters such as difficulty or HUD settings. You can follow along with the new episodes at the Ghost Recon Network.

Below are all the fixes and improvements we are bringing you in Title Update 6.

GAMEPLAY

- Added a new default helicopter controls, that can be deactivated in order to revert to the previous controls:

  • * Now the triggers control the vertical speed (LT = Vertical descending speed, RT = Vertical ascending speed)
  • * The left stick controls the horizontal speed (Up/Down = Forward/Backward, Left/Right = Left/Right)
  • * Left/Right on the right stick controls the rotation speed of the chopper
  • * Up/Down on the right stick controls the rotation speed of the camera (doesn’t impact the helicon pitch; this gives a feeling of the player controlling the camera, and the helicopter follows the camera)
- Every helicopter now has a different behavior

  • * Small helicopters are very fast, very mobile, and have a high pitch
  • * Gunships are fast, mobile, and have a very military feeling to them
  • * Blackhawks are slower and more steady when handling
- Helicopters take off physics are now more realistic. Once the helicopter reaches the correct RPM, it will take off automatically

- The helicopters no longer slide while taking off

- Helicopter engine torque reacts to the player’s actions (The player will be able to hear and see the engine rotors accelerating or slowing down)

- Improved destruction of helicopters on impact

*Disclaimer: The new Helicopter control scheme is not yet optimized for the Steam Controller. This may cause moving the helicopter left and right with the trackpad to be very slow.*

HUD

- While using a gatling chopper, the HUD now displays a crosshair while aiming

- While using a rocket chopper, the HUD now locks onto targets

- While using a small chopper with rockets, instead of locking, the player shoots rocket salvos

- Added a HUD display that shows the current helicopter speed and altitude

MISSIONS/NARRATION

- In "La Gringa" : -Fixed a bug where the objective marker could disappear

- In "El Chido’s Agent" : -Fixed a bug preventing missions completion if the agent gets alerted

USER INTERFACE

- Fixed a but where the “Down” symbol wouldn’t always appear

AUDIO

- Player will hear helicopter engines speeding up and slowing down upon accelerating/decelerating

WORLD

- Fixed some zones where player could not climb

FALLEN GHOSTS

- Fixed a bug where some rebel skills wouldn’t be displayed on the HUD

- Fixed a bug where some elements in the TacMap and the Los Extranjeros tab would be stretched on the ultra-wide aspect ratio displays

PC

- Fixed a bug causing the Tier 1 “Activation” button to not be clickable when using a mouse

- Fixed a bug causing some menu elements to be stretched when using an ultra-wide resolution (2560x1080, 3440x1440) in the Fallen Ghost DLC

- Fixed an issue that cause scrolling through a list while having a tile selected and moving the cursor away would reset the list to the selected tile

Once again I have to take my hat off for this continued support:

Anyone try the new helicopter controls? That was my main gripe with the game, they were all but useless beyond transportation. No crosshairs and nearly impossible to aim. I'm sure some people got decent with them, but they were hard not in a learning curve way but in a non-sensical control scheme way.

Hmm, a good reason to fire this up again to see how well they did with the chopper controls.

Has anyone heard anything about future DLC/expansions for this? Probably my favorite game of the year thus far, but once you go through it once, it's kinda over for me.

Going by the Division last year, it will be 3 DLC's this year. I will probably wait and see what happens by the holiday sales for the season pass.

Well I was playing the Ghost War pvp 4v4 last night, and it was pretty cool. The maps are small, and you have to be strategic with your teammates. You play 3 rounds, and best out of those rounds wins.

Had some good teams that was challenging. Also a cool feature is you can revive your teammate when they die.

Just about 100% done with the compaign

Is the DLC Fallen Ghosts worth it? Might pick it up on sale this winter.

I still have a code from the video I bought a few months back. I have to dig through my email tho. If I find it, I'll give it away here.

I thought so.

Agreed, I enjoyed it as well. Damn sight better than the other DLC with all the cheesy Monster truck jumps with arcade-like power ups and painted little birds. I tried to give it a chance, but it just grated against everything that is Tom Clancy.

Ok found the code-it's for Honor or wildlands. Take note, you must have an Nvidia 10 series card to redeem the code. whoever pm first, gets it.

GonE!

My game keeps on crashing. Windows 7, latest nv drivers, already verified cache. Now installing it on my SSD drive. Anyone face a similar issue? Crashes literally 2-3 minutes into the game. Loads fine and all. Wtf is up?

Do you have anything GPU hooking programs or recording software running? It seemed like it crashed whenever I ran OBS.

Nope, nothing running in background except Steam, Origin and Uplay. Btw, I did play this game fine earlier. Only thing that has changed is it has been months since I tried playing it. Even beta ran fine for me.
I can only blame the new NVidia drivers or a bad install so am now reinstalling. Should be done in an hour or two.

I was going to say verify files but that's just as well.

I'm probably not a best example, but when I was crashing it was due to my memory overclock. I had to dial down the settings for my memory overclock (running on X370 platform) to be able to play without crashing. Funny thing is (and frustrating part about it all) was that it was strictly only in this game that I experienced consistent crashes until dialing numbers back.

The Predator MIssion event is only for one month I'm not sure if I have to level or whatever to get to the mission.
I'm pretty sure it's open to everyone with the base game the marker is a triangle yellow on the right side of
It's in Caimanes. Near Alpha map

Yeah It doesn't look all that cool but I'm downloading it anyway and I hope I can play it next week.

Don't miss it.

I'm getting into it right now. It starts out where you check out some certain sights after you talk to a very scared lady. During this time you see certain familiar tropes. You're in the jungle, no music...and then a certain familiar sound happens and starts surrounding you on occasion. They even slip in certain audio cues from the movie and its soundtrack.

The tension... it's all there. This is really cool. Lots of nice touches.

Super tough fight. He stalks you and the whole deal. It's right out of the movie. All of it.
