Tobii officially revealed the IS5 eye tracking platform yesterday. The new platform has already been shown to "partners and customers behind closed doors," and Tobii claims that it is the "most advanced eye-tracking technology available to the general consumer market." The IS5 platform includes a custom CMOS sensor specifically designed for eye tracking, infrared illumination, a smaller, more power efficient design, and support for biometric security. Tobii hopes to integrate the platform into prebuilt PCs and PC peripherals, but another obvious application is foveated rendering for VR. Researchers have even used previous Tobii sensors to control drones by track depth perception, so the applications for this new platform are bound to be interesting.

"We continuously develop our technology to be able to reach a broader set of form factors as ultimately we believe that eye tracking will be a natural part of most devices on the market," said Henrik Eskilsson, CEO of Tobii. "IS5 marks a significant step forward in meeting the requirements of customers to be able to integrate into a much wider array of devices. With IS5, we are ready to take eye tracking to the next level in the PC market."

they need to partner up with one the VR headset people

I bought the 4C awhile back and haven't used it since. Pretty much a gimmick outside of VR usage.
