To Splice, or not to Splice.

Okay. so I have 2 products from an audio retailer Blaupunkt. they both plug into the same proprietary port containing 6 wires. they share 3 wires within this port. if I splice the 3 shared wires, would both products work? Blaupunkt sells a 30$ adapter but I feel when I could just splice. why bother?

EDIT: I just noticed the shared ports have 2 wires coming out from them, is this setup any different from connecting them together down the wire?

What's the purpose of this cable? What kind of signals/power do they route? Anything else that might be of relevance?
