So on my secondary rig I bought two PnY 970 GTXs [Blower Style].

Recently I came across a good deal for a champion overclocker 980 GTX from a forum member that can do 1500 + on core and 8Ghz on memory.

Now I am trying to decide whether to sell the 970s and just keep a single 980 GTX that is around 25% faster than a default GTX 980.

What do you guys think I should do? I use this rig to play BF4, Company of Heroes 2, C&C Generals (yea.. still play it) and I would most definitely play the upcoming Far Cry 4.

A 980 doing 1500/8000 isn't a "champion overclocker" - it's actually pretty common for 970's and 980's. That said, I'd hold onto the 970's.

Makes no sense to get a single gtx 980 over gtx 970 sli even at 1080p

Keep the GTX 970s. They will perform much better than a single GTX 980. Also how well do the GTX 970s overclock?

Also if you were to return the 2 970s you would get back $660.00 that's $110.00 more than a second GTX 980 will cost you. I'm surprised sending back the 2 970s getting a second 980 and putting $110 in your pocket hasn't come to mind ;)

Supposedly 4k gaming and DSR performance is quite a bit better with a 980 than it is with a 970.
