Three monitor setup- possible to set up middle monitor as gaming output?

Greetings! I run a triple 2560x1440 monitor setup with the monitors arranged horizontally across my desktop (roughly [6'1"/185cm] from far monitor edge to far monitor edge.)

The monitors are set up sequentially from far left to far right, meaning dragging a window or application from one monitor to another is correctly modeled after the mouse movement. The start menu/etc is far left, but once an application is started, I typically drag the primary window of the main application I'm working on to the center monitor and use the center as my primary display, dragging secondary/tertiary things, applications, utilities, spreadsheets, help-files, etc off to the sides when needed.

The thing I dislike about this setup is that when gaming, the gaming monitor is set to the 1st display, which is offset to my left. I'd prefer to use the center monitor for my display for gaming, even though I'd like the start menu/icons to remain on the left.

Is this possible to set up using the Nvidia control panel?

Thanks!

It sounds like you're not using surround. If that's the case, you can set your middle monitor as your primary monitor by: right click on the desktop --> screen resolution --> select the middle monitor and then select "make this my primary display" (or something close to that). That will move your taskbar over as well as clock and everything else such that things should start popping up on the middle monitor by default.

However, if you open something (say IE) and drag it over to the middle monitor (without making it your primary display) and then close it, it should always open up on the middle monitor unless you move the window somewhere else again.

Thanks for your reply! No, I'm not using Surround. It's cool and all, but even a dual 980Ti isn't enough to give me the performance I prefer at 7680x1440.

What you describe worked! For some reason I thought (mistakenly) if I made it my primary display, it would screw up the left-to-right window dragging order.

Appreciate the help.

Ah seems like you're having the same issue I am also with 980 Ti SLi

Does your surround settings stay on "surround" after reboot?

No I'm afraid this was a PEBMAC (problem exists between monitor and chair) issue. I mistakenly assumed that if I made the center one primary it would mess up the left-middle-right order.

I actually haven't even tried to run surround on the 980Tis; My 980Tis are only roughly 25 percent faster than my R9 290Xs, and they couldn't handle three 1440ps in surround mode; I figure I need about at least a 50 percent boost (or more) to get the performance I'd prefer at that resolution.

I might not be understanding your question properly, but you can usually select your preferred display within the options of whatever game you're playing.

Shouldnt be a problem. SLI and multi-display setups work completely perfectly with no issues whatsoever. Must be user error.

BWAHAHAHAHAHHA. :D

In all seriousness, this is what you are looking for....

Under NVCP, and setup multiple displays, note which monitor is labled the center one (or whatever display you want to game on). If that is not the one you are wanting to use, just click and drag them around until you get the display you want in the center. Apply.

Under Configure sli/surround/physics select maximize 3D performance.

Back in setup mulitiple displays you should be able to right click the display in the center, make it your primary, AND make it the focus display. Focus meaning that display will reap the benefits of 2 card rendering while gaming.

At least thats how is is supposed to work. Assuming you have your displays connected correctly to the 2 cards.

I've got 3x Titan X's driving 7680x1440 + 1 accessory monitor @ 2560x1440 (all 144Hz). I can definitely say those 3 cards drive that resolution just fine!

Also, for users of multiple screens using Extended Destop, Ultramon is a nice tool for the taskbar.
It puts a taskbar on each screen and shows an icon for the item that is open or minimized on that screen. I've been using the app for probably 14 years now.

Started using it back in 2001 when I had large CRT monitors, the 2 on the right is my main PC,

windowskey+shift+left/right moves current window to the next left or right monitor btw (useful to setup as a macro if you have macro keys as well)
