Nexus 7's are on sale this week dirt cheap I was thinking about picking one up. What do you guys use them for besides books?

I have some ideas but I need a bit of convincing.

Thanks!

The N7's replacement is very likely to be announced/released next week. I'd hold off for that.

Tablets are great for waching movies anywhere, surfing internet articles, for people that don't fully appreciate smart phones. They are a little too big for comfortable typing in my opinion and basically is a smart android phone without calling capabilities.

I was excited at first buying one, but quickly realized I liked the small form factor of my smartphone for regular use. But the tablet has grown on me and I figured out how to use it for my particular situation.

MOVIES and READING! sooo much nicer to have the extra screen size available and now my kids use it as a car theater system (strapped to the back of the headrest, playing the lorax)

You will have to figure out how it will suit your needs best and overall you may find you don't use it as much as you planned, but they are much much cheaper than smartphones and other tablets.

I wouldn't even consider buying an apple tablet, because I wouldn't use it enough to justify spending 2x the price of an android tablet. However, I would highly recommend buying the samsung version of the nexus 7 (galaxy tab??) Or any other name brand android based tablet that has an SD slot!!! My nexus 7 constantly reminds me of the paltry 8gb size (which actually equals about 5.5gb after the os, apps, updates) not a lot of room for movies or anything for that matter.

Overall you will be happy with it especially, if you are part of the 35% of americans that dont have a smsmartphone (blackberrys aren't really that smart btw)

Im not really that kind of techie. Call me the budget guy. Half my computer equipment comes off the forums here or slickdeals.

I'm kinda looking at these two that are up today.

I know I'll use it for books, internet, games. MTG familiar. I know the reason this is on sale is because the new is coming out.

You might also want to consider the new Asus Memo HD 7 that comes out next month.

There's also this 7.7" Toshiba Excite with an AMOLED display.

For a portable device I personally like the oversaturated colors and high contrast of AMOLED displays.

The Asus Memo HD 7 appears to be considerably lower spec'ed than the 2013 Nexus 7 in many ways. Not sure I'd make the switch.

Agreed. The only added benefits are price and Micro-SD slot. Everything else seems sub - par to Nexus 7.

When this was originally posted we were comparing it to the original Nexus 7, not the new one. The MeMo HD is better than the original Nexus, but obviously the new one is MUCH better.

Look up reviews the original nexus 7 was still the better tablet and the new nexus 7 blows last year's away.

Review comparing it to 2012 model

I own both last year's and the new nexus 7 the new one destroys it in every way.

I just picked up the first gen N7 for cheap, and really like it. There are some great prices out there now with people upgrading to the new one.

surfing the web on my toilet, and music while showering. Haven't found any other use for a tablet :D

Gross! :)

I do everything on mine including work and can even remote into my AMD gaming PC and play games with splash top HD (that's right shield suck it). All my business invoicing and credit payments. Remote for my Xbox 360 , chromecast and my Harmony one. I rarely find a reason to go to my PC unless I need office or want to game with keyboard and mouse.

The best thing about a tablet is being able to play Knights of the Old Republic while taking a dump. Sorry, too much information...
