Thermalright 1156 bolt-thru-kit

Does anyone know if there's any advantage to Rev B of the 1156 Bolt-Thru Kit? It costs more. It looks a bit difference, but I can't figure out how it's better than the original.

It is a lot better, it is more like the Noctua kit. The main difference is that when you remove the cooler with old kit you have problems keeping the screws from backside of the board while screwing it back. The new kit is in place and all you remove is the bar crossing from one side to another - the rest of kit stays on board all the time.

Thanks Faugusztin! I'll order the rev b. Easier installs are worth 3 bucks.

Here you have it more detailed :

Rev.B looks like this without the crossing bar installed

With the old kit it looks like this :

As you can see, with older kit you must keep the backplate in place while screwing in from other side, with new one you simply place the cooler on it, put the crossing bar on it and screw it in with 2 screws.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread. Anyway ...

For those of you who actually did get the 1156 retention kit, I'm curious about how it compares to the 775 kit. Looking at the pictures online they look so similar so I'm wondering if I could use the 775 kit when I get an i5 system instead of having to upgrade. For the 775 kit I have, I have the older one where it's just the cross clip that goes over the top (it looks the same as the original 1156 kit one) with the same black backplate. Anyone have any experience with this and can attest to whether it would work or not?

Reference pics are here: http://www.thermalright.com/new_a_p...ories_page/product_accessories_btk.html#1156b.

I have no qualms going out and buying the new retention kit but I don't want to spend money if I don't have to.

Actually looking at pictures again I notice in the 1156 mounting kit there are three holes to accommodate motherboard screws. I guess it wouldn't work after all. Nevermind.

If you mean the older version (the X version, not the rev2), then unfortunately you can't use the S775 bracket because holes are just a few mm away. So the holes in arms of X doesn't match and you can't make new ones because they are already at the end of the arms.
