the Truth about the GPU / CPU Shortage finally explained

Like I warned on here last summer Inflation is going to get alot worse on all things. Todays prices will seem cheap next year on all things especially anything with protein in it(nvm silicon),compared to todays insanity.
Inflation has been a problem in some countries, like in Turkey for example. If this continues then economies around the world will collapse and this experiment called capitalism will come to an end.

Increased demand and people having 'free money' is affecting almost everything. I can't even buy a new kayak in the Cincinnati area even though it's not exactly prime waterway country; the boutique shops now have a waiting list 100+ orders deep. It's the same with bicycles.
Which proves that 'free money' does stimulate the economy. The problem is that it does cause inflation because everyone knows you get this free money and will change prices accordingly. Also, it skyrocketed demand for certain products and the demand can't keep up. It also shows that raising the minimum wage would also have a similar effect as well. Wealthy inequality is a serious problem that has limited demand.

With the exception of a minority of small businesses which are all currently in their death throes, true capitalism is essentially done for at this point globally.
We are now living in a world ruled by Socialism and Corporatism, and both play off of the other, being completely synonymous with one another.

Exactly, and the more money that is printed doesn't increase the size of the pie, it only makes each slice of the pie that much smaller.
Increasing minimum wage will also increase the prices of products and services, as said small businesses will not be able to afford those wages for their employees without increasing said prices, and/or will simply go out of business - thus dissolves the middle-class and leaves everyone with powerful megacorps that rule your options, and central governments that rule your lives.

Welcome to the dark cyberpunk future, now present, and here to stay. :borg:

Speaking of "modern" capitalism (corporatism):

What a time to be alive! 💸 💸 💸

Those 17 billion dollar fabs needed to actually produce more chips to ward off the lack of supply, no light switch available to immediately make magical chips, CPUs, GPUs and everything else. Well may not be 17 billion in the end but way more, inflation takes away buying power of companies to expand, employ people and so on. Once pulling the trigger of free money, hey it must be a good thing because that is why we did it, so why not pull it again and again and again . . . People (some) will expect it, demand it, rely on it, not change their behavior for new conditions. So far, the actions I've seen done for the pandemic economically besides the vaccines (one saving grace) is very destructive.

Presumably the decision to embargo the chip supply for Huawei forcefully reminded everyone that there are serious risks involved in running 'just in time' production programs.
Logically the industry shifting to add more cushion creates excess demand, leading to the usual double and triple ordering, so still more excess demand.
This has produced a classic semiconductor business cycle, stretched a bit because it takes longer to get a modern fab operational, but history assures us that the bust will follow, probably 2022.

Small businesses weren't doing well for a while. The main factor that kills small businesses is rent or property taxes. NYC is finally starting to see their insane prices lower but it'll be a while before those prices come down to sane levels.

Nah. Otherwise we wouldn't be seeing this huge increase in demand for certain products. What we're seeing is a point where technology has improved enough that certain aspects of our economy can no longer function without massive changes. People don't need to drive to their office when they can do this from home. You'll need laptops, lots of laptops for this.

I'm OK with this.

Or just stop taxing the crap out of peoples homes and businesses? I could run a small business indefinitely if I didn't have to pay thousands a month in rent. Thousands I could use to pay employees. Put that burden on the megacorps. You can't keep crying to save small businesses and allow people to work bellow a living wage. It's a self defeating cycle.

There is truth to this, but at the same time the alternative to not giving out free money may have been far worse. For one, a lot of people would have starved. Besides deaths, this would also result in people violently attacking others for food. I know for a fact that people during the pandemic have bought a lot of weapons. Guns, knives, swords, and everything in between. Without that free money then you'll have a hard time sleeping at night, worrying that someone may break in and kill you for a PS5. You'll have an increase in homelessness, not that anyone actually paid their rent since April of 2020. Businesses would have failed much worse since nobody has money to buy anything.

It's time we admit the economy has been broken since 2008 and the pandemic has only shown us how bad it's been. That free cash has prompted not only people to upgrade their computer hardware, but even wood is expensive as people are making home improvements. Complaining about this electronic shortage is really a first world problem.

Economy has been broken for longer than that. It's just getting harder and harder to kick that can.
