The Samsung 840 EVO performance bug is back...

It seems that the firmware "fix" that Samsung put out nearly three months ago to correct the read speeds of old data on the 840 EVO did nothing.

A number of users over at the Overclock.net Forums, including myself, are experiencing the same very issues with the SSD that Samsung claimed the firmware "fix" would correct. You can see (at the link below) that a number of users have posted screen shots of HD Tune clearly showing that the issue still exists.

I was one of many users who were seriously hoping that this issue would be laid to rest with the firmware "fix" but based upon the benchmark data that's been posted, that clearly isn't the case. At this point, we need to make Samsung know that users of the 840 EVO want compensation for the flawed hardware and that we expect nothing less than a recall of the flawed hardware and replacement with new SSDs.

Interesting...wonder how long it will take Samsung to acknowledge this and issue another Firmware.
 
I just got an email from an editor at TweakTown.com stating that an article is going to be going up on the front page that's going to be referencing the issue.
 
Now the story is resulting in a 404 error. Why? I don't know yet. I've sent an email to the editor asking why the article went off the site.

I had the news story pulled until I can look at it further.

The benchmarks that were sent to me show normal flash slowdowns from data on the drives. You can see the same affect here:

I'll take a look at it tonight and change the way we show the result. I'm wrapping up an article on RAPID and will just roll this in with it. Look for a link in a couple of days.

Mine is still at 100% performance after the restore operation on 10/15, according to HD Tach and the Read Test Tool from the OC.net thread.

The real way to test though is to have another SSD installed and copy an old file back and forth, and check the tranfer rate/ time. Copying a 4GB game folder from my 250GB EVO nonOS drive to my 830 OS drive still stays around 450MB/s for most of the copy, and drops slowly at the end to around 300MB/s.
