I figured we should start a new official thread for Red Orchestra 2.

What is Red Orchestra? http://www.heroesofstalingrad.com/about/

Overview

Heroes of Stalingrad will take the award winning Red Orchestra franchise into the next generation of gaming. Cutting edge graphics and audio built on Unreal Engine 3, inventive features and streamlined realism will deliver an unrivaled WWII experience. Focusing on the Battle of Stalingrad and the surrounding operations, both German and Russian, from July 1942 to February 1943 the game allows the player to experience one of the most brutal battles in all of human history. For the first time ever in a first person shooter gamers will be able to experience WWII from the Axis side in a German single player campaign. As always with the Red Orchestra franchise, Tripwire will aim to deliver unrivaled accuracy and attention to detail, along with gritty, vicious combat in multi-player, co-op and solo modes. Again, Tripwire have listened to the fans and have designed a whole set of new features to make the game more accessible and easy to get into – all while delivering the tactical shooter realism fans of the original game loved.

Here are a plethora of new pictures:

Already preordered. I hope they'll do something at PAX, I'd love to hang out with some of them.

Going to be hosting a dedicated server day one. Let's not forget a launch party either. Anyone in the Seattle area want to play RO2 with a bunch of other RO2'ers on release weekend? :D

I think you still get the TF2 hats if you activate the gmg RO2 deluxe key instead of buying the game directly from steam

someone correct me if i'm wrong :)

This game should be epic for PC gamers due to all of the PC features that are included. Too many game makers are leaning heavily on the console type ports. Tripwire Interactive is making RO2 for PC players first and foremost.

I can't wait for the Beta of RO2 to see how well this game will play.

If you haven't preordered, GMG has much better discounts unless you are really into TF2 hats - http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1628242

You still get the hats. I didn't think so (thought it was a bug that had been rectified) but I noticed them in my TF2 bags last night. No notification, they just slip them in sneakily.

The GMG version is without question a better offer than the Steam one. It is the exact same package even down to the fact that it is downloaded and launched via Steam, but significantly cheaper. Especially if you register and buy it via a referral link, as it gives you 5 bucks credit on your GMG account - I got the game for £11 via GMG compared to the £26.something it would be on Steam.

So if you're actually a new user to GMG, have some referral links (it would totally allow me to own yet more games. and you too.):
Regular RO2 (no beta; Sept 13 release)
RO2 Digital Deluxe (beta out now \o/)

20% off codes are SUNNY-SAVER-20PEC // 20PEC-FACEB-SAVER // HAPPY-PAYDA-YSITE

Price is by the way pretty identical for people who pay USD vs GBP, while the EUR prices on GMG (which are only charged to a few countries like the Netherlands) tend to suck.

(And I was registered on here in like 2003, give or take two years, but my account seems to have vanished? Or I'm too dumb to find the email I used. So I guess this first post may look pretty spammy. :D)

By the way, http://forums.tripwireinteractive.com/showthread.php?t=48698 and http://forums.tripwireinteractive.com/showthread.php?t=56540 have a lot of info about the game, and if you're not convinced yet, join #redorchestra on GameSurge and let us convince you.

I completely approve of this thread.

I can't wait for this game. Especially the tank battles with all the weird tank controls and all.

i don't like how they pushed the coop t-hunt aside for a later date. im very suspect if the a.i. is any good.

I'm the edge of preordering. Since I own teh original its supposed to be like 30$.

I'm frustrated with the direction BF3 is going and hell will freeze over before CODMW3 is in my price range even if I wanted that turd. I've been itching for some classic WWII and Red Orchestra May just fit the bill.

You could always wait until the people who pre-ordered the Deluxe to play some of the Beta and give their impressions on the game before jumping in. Shouldn't be too much longer.

It's sure cheaper via what I wrote in post #11, but yeah.

BF3 origin keys should be cheap. But yeah.

CoD is hard to get cheap due to region limitations.

hehe, a good bunch of people were left staring at the "video processing, check back in a few minutes" for hours - the video had 500-1000 likes before it even had any views :)

Loved the video. Hilarious "gentleman" jokes and onhands gameplay with experienced players :)
I cant wait.

Not to be a smartass or anything but what exactly is the draw of this game? I never played the original game and after watching a few videos of RO2 it just looks like Day of Defeat but with worse graphics. Is it just straight up infantry combat?

The graphics look sick! what are you talking about?

Also, this game has a lot of support since it is a pure PC game, no consolization BS.

Well for me the stand out points about the game were the tank combat system and the first person cover system. I also liked the non America vs. Germany angle, which is a bit different. I also haven't played a WW2 shooter really since Day of Defeat (original not source) and 1942, so it is fresh to me.

The graphics are not set to be "killer", but just solid graphics. Fortunately I don't play an FPS game for just graphics. Graphics don't make a game playable or fun.

RO2 is one of the few games made exclusively for PC FPS gamers in mind. There is a list of items this game has that many have left out over the years and it has neutered PC gaming for some time. I applaud Tripwire for diving in to make a PC exclusive FPS game.

A few points for PC gamers.

-Mod tools have already been released to some modders and they are set to be released with the game or a week after release. So, mods a plenty for all.

-No DLC BS from Tripwire, they plan on releasing updates, new guns, etc for free. If there is a huge expansion pack then they may charge, but not just a few maps.

-Dedicated servers, but you are not forced to use one company for ranking purposes. You can utilize any server company that you like.

-True bullet physics and bullet drop...you know like in real life.

-A realistic mode and then a more arcade mode.

-Tank exclusive maps, infantry maps, 10 maps on release day.

The complete list follow the site.

Game plays NOTHING like DoD. It's a LOT more focused on realim, to the point where:

1. There's no crosshairs, at all, you want to aim you use Iron sights. You also manually bolt the rifles (I think it's optional in this one, but doing it manually is faster).
2. MG's overheat depending on how you use them, barrels need to be changed. etc.
3. Full tank combat, with long distance engagements complete with fully realized interiors, crews, etc.
4. All guns are deadly, even a pistol shot to the chest can kill you.
5. Scopes actually work like real scopes, when you use them you don't suddenly lose vision and go into a blacked out "circle" instead you bring the rifle up, the scope area is zoomed in but you can still see around it, like in real life (IE you don't put your eye straight up on it).

full scale combat ( 32vs32 players, recon planes, artillery , katyusha missiles, commander mode, tanks, APCs ) and maximum realism without sacrifing accessibility and fun gameplay ( I'm looking at you, ArmA ) there is a even a relaxed realism server setting for the less hardcore players.

You must be blind, a game running on a heavily modified unreal 3.5 engine can't look worse than an ancient game running on the orange box engine, get some glasses :p

Also not sure why people are complaining about graphics. UE3 is still far ahead in some areas than anything out today. Personally, I still think RO1 looks great though I play with higher contrast and lower brightness.

Well if they have all those aspects in the game, I'll have to pick this up. I watched the Gamescon videos and all I saw was the developer just camping in a corner of a house for 30 minutes which is why I was wondering what the allure of this game was supposed to be.

If anyone in the greater Seattle/Eastside area is interested in a release-weekend RO2-focused LAN party, send me a PM. :)

I'd love to LAN, especially if someone has some good tips for this game. I played the original off and on but none of my buddies were into it. I'm deployed until the end of September but currently have it pre-ordered. Just waiting to get back!

I hope there's a way to turn off that "shouting what I'm doing" stuff, it' s anoying when you're trying to be sneaky.

I would love to get it on the GMG deal for as cheap as possible! If anyone wants to PM some referral links that would be great.
