The official "clean desktop" club.

Your setups never fail to impress. What shell program/theme is that? Also, where did you get that delicious wallpaper?

Well it's a GuildWars wallpaper I know that much, and I have no idea about the theme; it's probably just a hacked uxtheme.dll with a well done theme; as many are.

Thanks:)
The Wallpaper is from Guild Wars which you can get here
www.gamewallpapers.com Its for members only (PM me if you want it)
The visual style is Windows Gnome Project along with the icons that come with the visual style
And the Foobar2k layout is my modded version of Elegance

I've always had a fairly clean desktop but this thread convinced me to go all the way...

I have always been a fan of minamilism. I've tried the fancy gadgets that are supposed to make things easier, but I just cant get into anything except the sidebar information gadgets. The best launcher out there is just the Vista start menu and quick find, and if you know your keyboard shortcuts and use mouse macros you don't need fancy menus and icons in your programs.

I've put two screen shots up, one with just my desktop, and one how I usually see it. I avoid desktop icons because they are usually covered up by something. Backgrounds don't matter much to me as well since they too are covered 90% of the time.

Click on the imaged for full size, since chances are high it wont fit on your monitor.

i went around looking for some new vista visual styles since its been awhile since it came out. found a few that i really like. this happens to be one of them...

www.vistastyles.org

Theme is called Aero X3remes and if you use the patching program called Vista Glazz its super easy to install these themes. You can just copy them to Windows\Resources\Themes and they'll show up when you click Themes in the Personalize control panel as long as they have a theme file. Otherwise you gotta open the visual style directly and choose the first Windows Aero style in the Visual Styles panel.
Original image was 1680x1050

With a window open to show just how transparent it is :)

And the usual Flip3D shot

Title bars and the taskbar also stay transparent when you maximize :)

hmmm. Not to offend anybody but, wasn't the original purpose of this thread to show clean desktops? I mean, it's slowly turning into a show-off thread, not that I mind since I really like watching them, but that though came to my head.

Anyways, may I know what you guys are using in order to get cool themes like this ones:

http://i16.tinypic.com/68ku0dz.jpg

They all look cool, but I wouldn't like to go back to WindowsBlind again, so plz tell me is not WB. And also, free would be a PLUS.
Thanks in advance.

Most of those are mine:cool:
There all free other then the single WB setup the one with the see-thru and car background
You will need the
UXTheme Multi-Patcher to use the visual styles
You can get most of the VS that I used here
http://customize.org/
or
http://www.deviantart.com/
Tell me if you need more help:)

The desktop environment I use is Astonshell, theme made by myself and the background is made by myself also, using Apophysis.

Thanks a lot dude. I tried it first on my old machine for test purposes, and it was a success. Now I have it working on my main rig. Nice! And NOT BIG performance hit unlike WB.
Anyways, the first site works aight. DeviantArt it's too complex for me. LOL. I just don't understand the layout the website has, and I find it impossible to find themes there. Oh well, Customize.org had to do.
But yeah, thx again.;)

Now THAT is a very cool wallpaper, if it only wasn't so damned WHITE and BRIGHT! :D Any chance of you re-rendering or redoing that with a different background, doesn't have to be black but some other less BRIGHT color that basically kills the rods and cones and the backlights too? :p

Be interested in seeing the other artwork you have if it's similar also. Got a gallery up someplace?

Thanks...

If it's "not necessarily" just a clean image of the Desktop itself, why bother? That's more a screenshot than anything else.

Seems people can't figure out the difference between the "clean Desktop," the "wallpaper mania," and the "screen shots" thread. Basically put, it doesn't mean the many crossposts between all three threads are appropriate (not pointing fingers, just stating a fact).

Just my $.02...

well clean is hard to describe. I keep the minimal amount of icons I need, and run few gadgets and use minimal style themes; does that make it clean? or is that just a screenshot?

I went widescreen, so I've got a new desktop to match. Wife got super pissed and smashed my CRT monitor (long story), then bought me a Samsung 206BW 20". I hope next time she gets mad she tosses my graphics card out the window, maybe then I'll get an 8800GTX

Anyway, heres the screenshot.

My desktop is laid out in a clean manner. What do you want? No applications open, only wallpaper and taskbar display? What's the point of that?

When I have the time, I'm going to mess around more with foobar's configuration.

hahahaa :p

that's one of the best stories I've heard in a while :D

ninja edit: here's my latest osx installation. Themed with shapeshifter and the 'Quad' theme, along with adium and geektool running on the desktop. Click for fullsize (1920x1200)

I used to have icons grouped on the desktop for quicker access, but between Vista's new start menu and the taskbar, there's no need now.

I actually got so bored today that I redid my desktop. I did some personal mods of icons too, so here it is:
