The Nike Adapt BB Is the Latest Iteration of the Self-Lacing Shoe

And to think I made fun of people that got smartwatches with the statement "sometimes you don't want to reach all the way in your pocket to get your phone".

OMFG, how did i ever make it 48 years tying my own fkn shoes...........
the amount of cash they spent on R&D just to make these makes me sick. what happens if they get wet? do they come with a "100,000 step warranty" ( stepping in dog shit voids ....)wow, just buy some snake oil , what a dumb fkn idea.

The R&D was already spent before, I remembered reading this in Wired a few years ago (link to article). Nike decided they wanted to create the shoes from back to the future in honor of the 2015 date that they travel to in the second movie. The TL,DR; of the article is that they made a version of those shoes and it took another year of development to actually put them on the market as some ridiculously expensive halo product. This is Nike finally trying to make money off of all that crazy R&D. Anyways, I would bet these are much less impressive than the high-end model they made before - not to mention $350 for a pair of sneakers... ouch.

Just retro fit Reebok pumps design to be a simple lace design pump it a few times and shoe fits snug and tight problem solved not over complicated.

All the hate for theses shoes are making me feel old. The ONLY reason these exist is because of the movie, and anyone who doesn't realize this is, well, I guess I have to join the club -
Get off my lawn!

- People are too lazy to go buy their own fast food
- People are too lazy to go buy their own groceries
- People are too lazy to tie their own shoes

Holy crap, I'm starting to sound like a grumpy old man!

Get off my lawn!

I actually said something similar to this in another thread recently.

Someone should start a thread along the lines of 'Hey you _____(fill in any new thing), get off my ______(fill in what hurts the most)." or(in old man's cranky voice) "Why in my day we didn't need no fancy _________". All of us cranky people could go there to rip new tech, software, features, prices, etc.

BTW, remember when people thought velcro was too lazy?

Get rid of the phone and make them voice activated,..then you have a winner on your hands. Don't forget to add programmable LED's, cooling fans, flexible OLED screens, wifi support, and 6 channel audio!

A freaking entertainment system for your feet! Just don;t forget to turn off the streaming porn before going into the grocery store!

Everyone is making bank selling user data. They just want in on that.

Every fucking thing these days has to have a phone next to it. Water boiler? It's got the smarts now! Shoes? They're smart, too. Just install the app, silly. All it needs is access to your location history, contact list, camera, and mic.

I'm simply amazed they made the firmware updates "opt-in" at this point.

Truly it is a sad day when "self lacing shoes" doesn't equal Back to the Future II.

I pity the poor, uncultured children who see these and don't think if only it came with the hoverboard...

i wonder how comfortable they are, and how well the auto lacing really is.

but.. updating the firmware on my shoes.. DOES.. give me a chuckle

You forgot to include "in the snow" :p

I actually did for most of my time in school; the bus took longer to get to my stop than cutting through the ravine and walking, especially in winter. I'm looking forward to annoying my kids with this when they're old enough! :D
