The New Old Pencil Trick for 8th Gen Intel

Bunch of turds at Intel. I would've happily paid for a 8700K that goes on the Z270. Not because I need it, but because *I need it*. Oh well, no sale.

The problem is that we've allowed both AMD and Intel to make their own chipsets without allowing third parties. There's no Ali, no Via, no Nvidia, no SIS chipsets. Just AMD an Intel with respect to their own CPUs. This wasn't a thing before, and it really shouldn't be a thing now when none of the chipsets for years have a memory controller on them, which I would imagine would be the bulk of the R&D spent on making them.

Totally nailed it with this comment. I'm sure this was Intel's plan from the moment they cut off licensing to third parties, and now I can't even remember the last time I actually purchased a drop in CPU upgrade. Probably not since Katmai to Coppermine maybe 18 years ago. Funny thing is that was in an Intel chipset, iSE440BX.. Oh how the mighty have fallen.
