What are the most dangerous search terms on the internet? A new report from McAfee tells you what search terms to avoid if you don’t want to end up falling victim to malware.

A new research report by U.S.-based antivirus software company McAfee has identified the most dangerous Internet search words that places users on pages with a higher likelihood of malware.

Porn isn't on that list???

I guess there are some things that are just sacred to all mankind...

are you serious? why is solitaire on that list?

Try it and find out ;)

The goal of virus developers is to infect computers via the most computer illiterate demography, which is the elderly - and you don't see them playing Serious Sam.

That list is crap. Everything you search for has a risk of returning malware. I found malware links in my search results for "Thermal Conductivity of Crushed Limestone" yesterday. WTF?

I suppose it depends on how you define danger on the internet. Personally, I find searching for terms such as "pink sock" or "pain olympics" to be more dangerous. Particularly in google image search with the filter off.

warez, cracks and serials aren't on the list?

That is what I thought also, they seem to be missing a lot of major ones.

For the same reason fill in game, ring tones and screensavers

Those types of software are often filled with adware, spyware or viruses.

One reason being that (average) people are likely to download such software.

?? My curiosity is peaked, but ..... I..... will....... resist....... for my own good.

actually I doubt it. sure there are tons of virus in that sort of stuff but most people that are trying to hack (loose interpolation of the word here) something are usually somewhat computer savvy. Virus are largely aimed at the computer inept. I would assume they would have the sense to scan such a file before using it. Hell I even scan every file I download, even the Linux distributions

I would say 2G1C is the most dangerous search term.
Sometimes I wish I were blind :(

The Brotherhood of Pain is also dangerous. You'ld probably catch more than one virus searching for them.

Here I came into this thread thinking "most dangerous search terms" was going to be something about how googling for instructions on how to make a bomb will dispatch the FBI to your doorstep. :p

Anyways, the article made a couple of good points, most of them being very obvious as usual, but I can't list the number of times I've been to legitimate websites that have been compromised due to poor security nor the times I've been on a forum (not this one, lol) where at least one somebody (or bot) goes around disguising links that redirect to porn, malware, or shock pics or animations.

The Internet: Nothing's guaranteed.

Well, you'd think that McCaffee won't list the obvious terms since if more people know about them, it might mean less viruses on people's PC's which means less people buy their products.
More viruses = More $ to McCaffee :D

(Sarcasm here but probably true in some form i'd imagine..hehe)

2G1C has nothing on 1 guy 1 jar

Must watch this so called 1 guy 1 jar flick.

2girl 1 cup wasn't that bad at all and the only "real" thing about it was the vomit, the turdtastic was made of chocolate or something of that nature, which in turn would make the vomit taste better.

Having over eaten candy to the point of vomiting I can tell you first hand candy coming up taste very close to candy going down, just has a little burn to it.

I have to slightly disagree with you here. Viruses are aimed at everyone. On top of that I know a lot of people that will download cracks, warez and all that type of stuff with out being computer savvy.

I know a lot of people to go onling to find free movies to watch before they are released and use stuff like limeware to download movies and music. They are the ones that would hear about some program and then hear from somebody else that they heard you can get it free if you search for it and end up randomly looking for how to get said free version of the program.

Last time i went looking for a crack program I had about a half dozen viruses try to install themselves from the site I went too.

Just like with movies, movies, games, and all that stuff you find on p2p networks, warez, cracks and the rest that you might get from speciallity sites are going to be likely to have viruses.

Most of what you want to call "computer savvy" think they are above and beyond getting viruses and don't bother running antivirus, so I am not sure how you think they would scan anything. Just look at how many time somebody has posted on here how they don't run antivirus software as they never get viruses on their computer.

I'd say that the most dangerous search terms are the ones that get the party van on the way to your address, but even compiling such a list would be fraught with risk.

but seriously, malware is job security for the antiviral industry. As we all know, money can take priority over morals and dignity.

A big deal of viruses and malware comes just from sites with cracks, serials and stuff regarding warez, or other "free stuff". Of course porn is also a big magnet for these. It always make me wonder who actually cares to make crap like that?

I think the savvy ones have better ways of going about it than typing "warez" into Google :D
