Ummm they are selling sex....which is free in the first place.

It's the losers and desperate that puts a price tag on sex. Most of those high production movies are lame anyways.

What is you point... all these "free" services we pay for cause we can't do it as well as or as often as others...

Their market is changing, they have to change as well. Once people can only get cracked out whores for free vid on the internet, people will start to pay for decent stuff...
 
As much as I enjoy porn and hope that porn will be produced to the extent that it is now, I have to say it: Adapt or die.

These guys need to figure out how to compete with some of the larger porn trackers. No small feat, but it's totally doable, given the right approach.

Business 101, if a field of business gets saturated, you can't charge a premium anymore. Find a niche or find a new job. Porn isn't hard, any nimrod can do it... And that's the problem, many nimrods ARE doing it and therefore she can't make as much money.

Uhhh you really don't know how easy it is to get REALLY attractive girls to star in films do you? That's kind of what the article was saying, $300 would have girls doing really hardcore stuff. That's kind of the point, porn isn't taboo anymore and if you were to go to a college campus and offer a couple grand you'd get more than a few takers.. and consider the production costs for these films [next to nothing] and the distribution costs [next to nothing; internet] and it's almost pure profit beyond the couple grand to get the hottest girls to be filmed... the internet is FILLED with girls who *aren't* pornstars in the true sense of the word but are smoking hot and doing the exact same thing as the ones being paid hundreds of thousands of dollars...

Convenience and an appreciation for quality (adjusted for personal taste, of course).

Your argument works equally well for virtually any digital content, including games, non-porn video, and music.

Just as with any entertainment product, I put dollars into the industry in exchange for what I consider good value...which doesn't include videos featuring Monica Mayhem.

Exactly: They are the victims of their own success. By lobbying/litigating hard to be considered a legitimate industry, everything they do has become mainstream. Customers now look for more eccentric acts while the general public is more willing to do them on camera.

I think what she should say is "amatuers" are ruining the industry because people prefer real, actual, natural flawed humans.

Its no longer a world of blown up, dressed up, frilled up people. Its now a world of joe six pack and his dirty girlfriend.

Its pretty obvious thats how she feels by her SAG comment. They have no union to protect them. They want the amateurs pushed out of the industry, they want only "legitimate, unionized" porn stars to be the ones to be stars.

And as far as protecting IP. Thats a problem for every industry, everywhere. Not just them
 
The erotic industry has been evolving for decades now and is often on the cutting edge of technology. Just ask the old porno film makers and XXX theater owners about when VHS tape player / recorders came out. This same argument came out and the industry did change drastically but I would argue that those who moved with the changes made much more money after the technological change than before.

So, she needs to stop bitching and look to the future. Where is the streaming HD pr0n? How about more live and on demand pr0n?

I do think that the focus towards female customers is the right move. They are less likely to just need to just get off which a free video clip on the web suffices, but instead would use erotic material as an enhancement to their sex life so I can see how they would be more likely to purchase the material over a quick download.
 
The pornstars who are making the real money are the ladies/men who have hooked up with tech geeks and do thier own "work" and the have thier techies help with thier site.

This speaks more to the quality of actual porn... or lack thereof. I'm guessing most people feel that professional porn doesn't deliver quality worth paying for. I'll admit that I bought porn dvds way back when. The only good stuff you had to pay for and the free stuff was utter crap, less than a minute long (slow bandwidth, computers, etc.) These days, I do prefer the homemade stuff. I don't know how much of a minority I am, but I prefer shaky handheld or tripod stuff to seeing a couple getting it on with someone holding/moving around with a camera for the 'best' angle.
