I stole this directly from Gaf, credit goes to CoLan

I discovered this game few days ago (it's for PC), and i couldn't believe how good the graphics department is.

It's free to play, developed by Avalanche.

I didn't play much, but from what i could see it's really well done. You start with a rifle and sniping scope, few clothes such as gloves, hat, etc., ammo, and other stuff.
The HunterMate is a sort of GPS device, but it helps tracking animals, giving advices about the approssimate location of your prey.
Controls are your standard crouch/prone, hold breath (with space bar) while aiming, and toggle run/walk.

I think there are only deers and turkeys, but they said more preys are coming

The official site integrates stats tracking, leaderboards, and all community/social stuff so that players can show off their performances. There is no online play with other people at the moment, but the developers says it is in the work.
You have to log in into the site to play.

I don't even like hunting but this looks great, will check it out, for now though I keep getting "server full" when I try to login after making my account.
 
yeah i was in the beta for this game... the game is really peaceful and can be enjoyed with buddies.

j/k... I'm not a hunter, and this actually looks decent to me...

Maybe Crytek should take notice of this trailer?

I haven't read ANYTHING yet on the game, but I wonder if it takes wind direction into account? I can only imagine what you might be hunting and in what conditions for the boss level on expert. :)
 
Basically impossible to download the game as of now - running at .5KBps.
 
Looks interesting but their servers are apparently getting Chris Browned so I'll probably try again in a week.

*edit* Watched the trailer, obviously arcade. If you can walk up onto deer and shoot them, it's an arcade shooter. Pass.

The graphic seem pretty good, but still not close enough to compete with Crysis...

This game looks more of Game Realistic, Crysis bring the Real world Realism, which is entirely different...
 
Yea there are problems logging in. I didnt have any trouble downloading though. And the game is based on the Just Cause engine FYI
 
Oh good that developer still owes me $30 for Just Cause, we'll call it even now. I still say that's Corey Feldman on the cover.
 
This game is not an arcade shooter. I played for an hour and saw zero deer, though I admit I didn't read the manual/tutorial. Very pretty game, though.

Performs fantastically on my machine. Max settings with 2x AA. I get 40 to 50 FPS. I'll upload some screens soon.

it only prove you are lacking of some standard knowledge...

Same here hah, played for about an hour, found deer track and scat, but I never saw a deer.

Every so often I'd hear a "beep" sound (like when you come across tracks or such) but with none around, I assumed that meant I startled a deer nearby.

I tried just walking for a long ass time, didn't run, Used the caller every so often, mainly when I found tracks or such, still never saw a deer though.

have the tracker out all the time and hit right mouse when u get the beep.

i found piles of tracks and poop. saw a deer once, but it heard me and ran off....i was walking, crouched, about 700m away.

they spook really easy.

no streams or feeding areas. its nice, has neat lighting, but visually, it didnt blow me away by any means. I would much prefer the crysis engine.

the deer movement seems to be random. I tracked for several hours and they just go all over. Some other hunting games, the deer have logical deer paths and habits.
 
Anyone else have the "options" disabled on the main menu? I'd like to be able to set my own controls but I can't seem to do that. Am I missing something or will the game not let you have a custom control setup?
 
I cannot get this game to install at all!

And I'm starting to think its a XP x64 thing I don't know.

I go to download the game and the Emote window pops up and I hit ok and nothing happens.

Is there a torrent file in the Emote program directory under the hunter?

I'm getting ~10KBps ever since this thread was created. Highest was at 120KBps. :rolleyes: Hopefully it'll finish when I wake up.

Edit: Amazing, now it's running at ~400KBps. I guess everyone is sleeping instead of downloading. :)

Actually I was quite impressed, it's surprisingly immersive. I suspect I'll be looking at a membership when the store's up again.
 
Well finally fixed my issues..

Took two deer down.. but young ones so they didn't count for much.

Definitely a good time wasting game hahaa.

How did you go about it? I didn't read the manual but it doesn't take long to pick up: wander around with the tracker out, as the bars increase it indicates that you're closer to a track, approach the track, click, then right click, then follow the breadcrumb trail and shoot.

However, I did this twice and am confused about the shooting. I was aiming at some little shit's head, fired, saw a big spurt of blood and then the stupid thing ran off in a fit. I don't understand, really, it took a round to the head judging by the blood spray, and being a shot from the side if it had gone over or under the head there'd have been none. I had another go at a longer range a little later, and there doesn't seem to be any bullet drop.

PRolly nicked it. You need to shoot it through the side. Say above the front leg in the chest area, so it hits all the vitals. Thats wher eu shoot a deer, not in the head for maximum chance of killing it.

Seems to be disabled.

On a side note: Only took me twenty minutes to find my first deer. The AI definitely needs work as I shot and hit it 175ft away yet all it did was run in circles. Got a second hit in at 251ft which finally got it immobile for the closeup kill.

The game is quite a ways away from Crysis graphically, and that is not even taking into account physics and whatnot. Would also like to see bullet wounds on the animal. Still, seems like a fun hunting game.
 
How's the performance and how big is the download? I'm getting Server full capacity now though.

Performance isn't bad. I expect you should be able to run it at max settings on your 19" LCD with some AA with no slowdowns. Download is ~360MB. To download and play, you must be logged into the server.
 
Ive been looking for a new decent hunting sim. However, the server is always full :(. Guess ill have to try downloading it over night
 
Been watching this one since Deer Hunter Tournament burned its fanbase. The only thing that has me worried is the whole microtransaction/subscription aspect. They dont get into much detail about it though.
