The [H] Post Pictures of your ManCave

That's a legit cave at the moment. Sweet plans. I'm also thinking of going with a projector setup. Never thought of going anamorphic screen. I can fit about a 110" 16x9 screen. Are most blue rays 2.35? I am definitely out of the loop as most of what I watch is via a fire stick.

If your watching mostly movies then I would go with a 2.35:1 screen. Very few movies now days are 1.85:1, even nextflix originals are 2.01:1. I really like not having black bars, and being able to hide the speakers behind the screen. Here is my old setup.

if you have a 16:9 native projector, isn't there light bleed on the top and bottom of the screen? (I'm a noob, but I have a 4:3 native projector now so watching 16:9 content has light bleed like I describe)

With everything being black around the screen it absorbs the light so you don’t see it at all. You see it so much on your setup because it’s hitting the screen. That’s reflecting the light back because even though there is no picture there, it’s still producing some light where the black bars are. If you take some velvet and just hang it down from the top of the screen over the black bars you will see how big of a difference it makes. When I had a 16x9 screen I built some masking bars out of foam and velvet , made a huge difference.

What speakers are these? (nice setup!)

Thanks. They are Presonis Eris E5. They sound amazing. They are very sensitive to ground loops though. I had to completely isolate them. I also have small pioneer sub for extra bass. The stands I got on eBay a long while back. I can find the seller if you’re interested in those too.

Just bought a new house having to start a new theater build. Here are a few pictures of the new room I’ll be finishing for the new theater. Room is 20x13 old room was 20x12. Should work out nice. I’ll have the same gear as the old room. JVC RS620, 7.2.4 atmos setup , 138 inch 2.35:1 screen. Doing 70% of the room in triple black velvet going for a fully blacked out room.

We need a step by step thread on this. excited to see you get going on it.

I’ll keep it up to date. Should be starting on it in the next month. Just finished up my wife’s new kitchen 20k later. Turned out nice though lol But she said I can spend whatever I want on the new room now. Also think she wants me to get my server off my desk lol.

I could see why she would maybe want that. hey whats the guts of the server btw?

Nothing to crazy, 4960k , 8gigs of ram, 12 hot swap bays. 1060gtx , 850 Evga platinum psu. Damn pci-e video card slot died last night. Looking at bumping up to an AMD 2700 setup or a server cpu off eBay. Worried the whole motherboard might die at some point now. That’s an older picture but not much has changed. This also serves as my HTPC for my theater room. Need something some what beefy to run MadVr.

What about the Intel CPU's with the integrated graphics? not good enough for what you need to run?

Nice! I just finished their ported cube 15 myself!

Was scrolling through the thread and enjoying everyone's man cave setups and had to give you props for the Polk LSi series, I'd have to guess the LSi15's. I actually have the same ones in my living room paired with dual SVS PB1000's (not a huge room so these rock pretty good). LOVE those speakers!!

Hi

Here are some photos of the workstation and the entire house that I´ve been developing since I was eighteen years old, I´d like to share some of the projects and knowledge about green energy and sustainability.

I tried to capture the house exactly how it looks when you arrive and get into to, is a little dark because is a man cave I took maybe 10 shots to make one photo and was pretty hard to capture the vision that we have when you sit to play something or watch a movie.

I have two setups, the first one is for gaming, movie and work, the second one is for watch movies with friends and family. The entire house is powered by green energy, I have one sun water heater for the hot water, all the house were made using recycle parts from another houses / company's. I will try to list everything that I have here, some people think that the house is not real because looks like one store or playland, the truth is that neverland from MJ was my inspiration and I´m not even close of that...haha The house has automation for everything, I can turn on the lights, music, movie, the kitchen and even control the pressure of the water, the temp and the flow.

The room and the office are jumped together with cables from outside of the house, so If you want to play games in setup 2 you just need to change the monitor and audio setup. If you want to watch some movie in setup 1 from setup 2, you just have to change the entry in Denon receiver, all the house is connected together and working as it should after long years of test and programming. In the setup 1 if you want to play using TV you just need to change to monitor 2, if you want to use the headphones just change the audio output for Razer board, if you want to play using headphone in setup 1 with cockpit you just need to grab the second Razer Tiamat and plug in the Sony receiver.

I´m so sorry for the bad quality of some photos, I had to use my cellphone because my lens could not take the photo so close. maybe I will do one update when I get one canon 10/22 mm. Me and my friends use to do some lan parties over here, there is one video of us doing one stress test with Asus and the ISP. Since everything in the house has one IP and access to the internet, the 400 / 200 ISP link sometimes is less for what the house want, right now the Asus is showing me 5 / 6 TB of traffic peer month, crazy right?

Some shots:

zb7HbXq.jpg

This is the electric panel of the house, everything were made by hand and with Siemens products for best quality, I use one sand fuse for setup 1 and another one for setup 2, that´s filter the noise from power surge and delivery clean energy for the entire house, also it has DPS for rain lighting protection, two grounds, even for the cable TV and telephone line, all the receptacles are hospital grade, kitchen receptacles are waterproof.

The couch get´s out of the room and I install the cockpit for play some games on tv, we can use the 7.1 home theater or the Razer Tiamat 7.1 if there´s someone in the same room using another computer / arcade and we don´t want to disturber or make so much noise.

This is an old project that I´ve made in the past, it uses one computer inside with Hyperspin and almost 500 GB of games and emulators, built in speakers and one original CRT tube from 1990, also one coin selector that works with 25 cents.

Welcome to some nice blurry crappy pics. This is my back room mancave. I have my Plex server housed here on the bottom shelf of the tall bookshelf (specs in sig), my main dual monitor rig (again, specs in sig), and a ton of nostalgia stuff scattered around the room. It looks a lot better in person, if I wasn't so lazy I'd clean the lens on my camera and try again because these pics kinda...suck. Anywho, I spend quite a bit of time back here gaming, youtubing, plexing, etc. Also included is a pic of the ol' hardware closet. Most isn't relevant anymore but like a lot of [H] members, I hold on to the past.

Little update on my room.. I just ordered my replacement front LCR speakers. People over at AVSforums be killing my wallet. They are JBL 4722n ScreenArray. They are what most Full theaters have in them. Dual 15's in each one. I'll also be running dual 18's for sub's tuned down to 17hz. Should be fun lol

Here's a photo dump of my cozy ~9'x11' office, I really don't think I could pack too much more into this space: Big gaming rig, big audio, PLEX server, massive CRT/Retro gaming setup, old school gaming collection coming together slowly, and a Bass + practice amp combo.

Trying to do a lot with an old late 50's Bob Sunday house, the bedrooms are TINY.

So happy with how everything has turned out so far, just need to keep growing the retro gaming collection :D

Looks better with the lights off, all ice blue back lit, both the comp desk and retro station.

And that's a 80's era Formula 1 race tire as a center table :)

PLEX server (old HP Micro server) hidden behind the 2nd monitor.

Still trying to figure out what needs to go above the monitors/CRT, got a lot of space to fill with something large...

got a third screen:

New theater room is getting there.. Should have all the electrical and speaker wire ran this week. Maybe even the insulation finished. Then hope to do drywall next week. Drywall will be fun doing 2 layers of 5/8's. All the wall are doubled with a air break in between. Hope to keep most of the sound in the room.

nice! are you going to be putting insulation in the walls?

Yeah it will have r13 in the walls. Then an air gap then the exterior wall that also has r13. Granted all but one wall is an exterior wall. Just trying to keep the outside sound out more then in.

Alright. I was finally able to spend some time putting my space in order.

I prefer calling it my "Office" rather than my "mancave", but it really serves the same purpose. Ever since the pandemic started I have done all of my work from down here, but it wasn't quite done and organized until right now. I utilized a space that probably was a 70's man cave with a bar and a fireplace. The fireplace is no longer functional, and I don't need a bar to drink, so I am putting it to better use:

Here is the main desktop setup. (I really need to get better speaker stands)

1609561768663.jpeg

Behind my seating position, on the right hand side of the panorama up top is my "Printer Bar".

1609561980890.jpeg

It also has my "testbench" machine, a PC build from spare parts I use for testing new stuff, flashing firmware to SAS controllers, etc.

And then we have the curtain...

1609562098434.jpeg

So what's behind the curtain?

1609562163441.jpeg

Well, there's a set of doors. And behind those?

PXL_20210102_041124671.jpg

Well, that's my server room where my rack hides, as well as my little "clean" workbench.

Current project on the workbench? That's by new 1U KVM I'm getting ready to install in the rack.

(I also have a couple of workbenches with more power tools for heavier stuff out in the garage)

Now you have to show us what's behind the curtain to the right of your "clean" workbench. You started this and now you must finish it. :sneaky:

Lol, That's the boiler room. There is a door behind there. The noise absorbing drape is just there to dampen the noise a little bit. That's the purpose of the drapes in general. The drapes to the server/workbench room kill the rack noise, and the drape to the boiler room reduces the boiler noise when it kicks on.

Nice... builds..
I didn't know there was a Home theater section on this forum lol... very cool..

Guess ur doing a room within a room?.. very cool.. is ur ceiling joists separated as well or just the walls? Using green glue in between those 2 5/8 drywall?
Last year I did finish building my dedicated Home Theater for the most part...

I didn’t fully decouple the ceiling , did double 5/8 drywall between the joist. It’s a room within a room. The ceiling is screwed into furring strips and not into the joist them selves. Getting close to finishing it.

Nice... I considered at the start doing a room within a room but the STC values weren't too much higher than doing acoustic clips on 25ga hat channel, with double 5/8" drywall with green glue in between. Also I didn't want too much space..
Anyways looking good..keep it up.

I have a full build thread in AVSforums but I guess I should post a pic or so here so I can contribute..

Dedicated Theater Room is (16' x 25' x 9.5')
165" 16:9 4K Screen using an Epson 5040UB (maybe a 6050UB or JVC in the future)
Theater is 7.2.4 which will eventually be 7.6.4.. Soundproofed, almost air tight, need to adjust and replace auto door drops for the double doors. I do have supply and returns for air circulation and a mini split for temp control.
Much more details but will leave em for later..
Still not 100% done, need to install fiber optic star ceiling and a few other tweaks.
Hope you enjoy the pics.. I need to take better pics...

Definitely need to get in on this thread. Still need to tidy things up, but I don't refer to my space as a "Man Cave". It's too big for that. I call it "Man Canyon". We bought a big stone victorian in central NY, so despite the fact that it would cost $1M almost anywhere else, we got it for a song back in 2015. It's 3600 SF, total, but that doesn't include the attic that is another full 900 SF or so. THAT is my space. Been filling it out and making it neater and more presentable for the 6 years since we moved in. Just about presentable to the public. Only downside is the weather. Damn hot in the summer and no real heat in the winter, but I manage....

Got my drywall finished and painted and the new carpet installed today. Wife picked out the carpet. Wanted some pop in the room. Since it will be mostly black. Think It turned out pretty damn cool.

I have an entire man condo. My soon to be ex wife grabbed the kids, and hit the jets, grabbed her stuff and left after 12 years together. Anyhow, I get to see my kids often, but this is my lovely setup:

By the way... It's NOT cheaper to KEEP HER.

That's how I can play this hard now:

Welcome to the club, brother! Mine left after 14 years together a few years ago and I have remained happily single since.. I lived in a house with a bunch of friends back in 2000 - I had my room (basement with bathroom) super dialed in with everything I love (PCs, home theater, DJ setup, salt water reef tank, couch, bed, mood lighting). My house now is like that room but on a much larger scale lol - and I fucking love it!

yeah pendragon1 the cat face on the VR googles is hilarious.

You guys didn’t have to ditch your wife to have a nice HT/gaming setup.
The conversation that it’s something important to you, and then buying within your fiscal means, and placing it outside of a room that is most important to your wife’s civil sensitivity (like not the living room or kitchen that she wants to present as her nest with her own personal touches to her friends and family) ought to be a reasonable approach that would work for most solid relationships.

Behind my seating position, on the right hand side of the panorama up top is my "Printer Bar".

It also has my "testbench" machine, a PC build from spare parts I use for testing new stuff, flashing firmware to SAS controllers, etc.

And then we have the curtain...

So what's behind the curtain?

Well, there's a set of doors. And behind those?

Well, that's my server room where my rack hides, as well as my little "clean" workbench.

Current project on the workbench? That's by new 1U KVM I'm getting ready to install in the rack.

(I also have a couple of workbenches with more power tools for heavier stuff out in the garage)

We moved, actually bought a house in this crazy market. I can't afford anything as crazy as what some of you guys have, but I do have a little home office that doubles as a mancave light.
