ok so what about saying external stuff like that can count towards your total amount of storage, but since it isn't in the same chassis it doesn't count towards having the largest single system?

does that make sense?
or should I reopen the old thread so we can discuss it more?
I would say reopen the old thread and get their opinions on the matter. I'm sort of indifferent, either decision works for me. That's why my original argument was that a motherboard + cpu determined the 'system', but you would have to come up with a system so that 'attached' drives are different.

Maybe like 'total storage = 15TB, internal 10TB, external 5TB' sort of thing.

I would see what the community wants, I like the idea of opening up the old thread so that the new thread isnt full of chatter.
....

dumb to open the old thread IMO

either way, it's easy to "cheat" for DAS storage. It's a pretty simple concept to have drives within one chassis. I can SAN all my systems together (which I have before) and consider everything to be one system). All DAS systems are generally dumb devices and requires a host (SAN, NAS, DAS, FC, etc)
